Varminter - var·mint·er (värmnt r) - n.  -  A person who hunts varmints (vermin, typically small mammals); a varmint hunter.  Varminters hunt as a means of pest control, to protect property, livestock or crops, in lieu of other, less environmentally friendly options, such as poison.

Updated 01/02/2013 – Petersen’s Hunting has now released an introduction to the new 17 Winchester Super Magnum. Confirming our update from December 18, 2012, it is a new .17 caliber rimfire that comes in a 20 grain bullet offering (which the author states reaches 3000 feet per second) and a 25 grain bullet offering (reaching 2600 feet per second).

Most people have different ideas about what makes an “Underdog” caliber. It can be the caliber the rifle is chambered in. It can be their early demise, due to a corporate bean-counter who never even shot the round; or lack of popularity because a new, hotter caliber eclipsed its performance.

I know what you’re thinking. How can I be “Going Green for Ground Squirrels”? Other than rigging their dens with solar power, or getting them set-up in some miniature Prius’, there is not really a way that Ground Squirrels can “Go Green”.

Unless you live under a rock here in California, you must know by now that the use of lead ammunition in certain parts of the state has been banned. This ban, as described on the California Department of Fish & Game Website , effectively put an end to rimfire hunting for ground squirrels and other “non-game” animals.
