The Gophers (Ground Squirrel) goes by many names throughout North America, Gopher or Ground Squirrel being the most popular. Member of the squirrel family, order rodentia. Size varies by area with 8 inches in length being the average. Very prolific, having up to two litters of eight to twelve young, depending on conditions and location. Living in colonies, burrows can extend up to 15 feet, often having many different entrances. Cannibalistic, they will readily eat the dead of their own kind.
