Franklin Armory announces the Release Firing System for varmint hunters and target shooters.  –  Franklin Armory is pleased to announce the limited availability of two revolutionary patent pending triggers: The Binary Firing System™, which has a mode that fires one round with every function of the trigger (whether pull or release,) and the Release Firing System™, which has a mode that fires only on the release function of the trigger stroke.

Since varmint hunters and target shooters are always looking for a lightweight trigger, they will likely enjoy the RFS™. The pull weight is actually measured in negative numbers!

Here is how it works:
It features a three position selector that allows the user to switch from Mode 1 for Safe, Mode 2 for traditional Semiautomatic Mode, or Mode 3 for Release Fire Mode. In Mode 3, the firearm is not designed to fire on the pull stroke of the trigger. However, when the trigger is released, the hammer will fall forward and hit the firing pin. If the shooter were to have an emergency cease fire after pulling the trigger, the RFS™ will allow the shooter to rotate the selector back to Mode 2 and release the trigger without firing a shot. The selector could then be placed on Safe and unloaded. With the added safety features in place, Franklin Armory™ intends to petition various governing bodies to allow the RFS™ equipped firearms to be used in competition. The RFS™ will be available in all VSeries rifles, as well as the F17-L™ and F17-V4™. RFS™ equipped firearms are slated to start shipping during the first week of December 2015.

The BFS™ will be appreciated by three gun competitors, tactical shooters, and recreational enthusiasts.  It too features a three position selector that allows the user to switch from Mode 1 for Safe, Mode 2 for traditional Semiautomatic Mode, or Mode 3 for Binary Mode. In Binary Mode, the firearm will discharge one round with every function of the trigger whether a pull or a release. Similar to the RFS™, a user can negate the round that would otherwise be fired during the release function by simply moving the selector back to Mode 2 and then safely releasing the trigger.

It is important to note that as of this writing Franklin Armory™ has waited 117 days for the second letter of determination from ATF-Firearms Technology Branch. In the first letter, ATF-FTB asked Franklin Armory™ to address one nuanced element, which was immediately remedied. Given that ATF-FTB has not rendered an opinion within the customary 90 day period, Franklin Armory™ took the extra step of contracting an evaluation to be performed by Mr. Daniel O’Kelly, Principal at International Firearms Specialist Academy.  Mr. Kelly is himself a retired ATF agent, and he concluded in his professional opinion that, “At no time did it […the BFS™…] fire more than one shot per function of the trigger, no matter how quickly in succession the trigger was pulled and released.” Consequently, the BFS™ trigger system “is not a firearm under the purview of the Gun Control Act nor the National Firearms Act.”

It is understandable that some consumers may have a concern about the potential of the ATF-FTB ultimately producing a negative letter re the BFS™. While our internal legal review and third party testing would not support that unlikely event, Franklin Armory™ has a solution that we wish to broadcast in advance of any sales. In the event that ATF-FTB were to produce a derogative letter, Franklin Armory™ would voluntarily recall any and all BFS™ equipped firearms so that they may be either modified or reequipped with an RFS™ trigger. If this should happen, parts, labor, and shipping would be paid for by Franklin Armory™. Obviously we would not venture down this road unless we knew we were on solid footing.

It is important to note that both triggers will only be available in complete firearms for the initial launch to ensure that no production issues jeopardize the product success. Every firearm will be tested with a full magazine before shipping so that we can guarantee that every trigger is working absolutely perfectly.

The BFS™ will be available in select Franklin Armory™ firearms initially, and they will start shipping during the first week of November.   While the RFS™ is available for sale in all 50 states, the BFS™ is not being offered for civilian sales in the following jurisdictions:

California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Iowa, New Jersey
New York, North Dakota, Oregon, and Washington

Orders through participating Franklin Armory™ dealers are being accepted now for the BFS™ and RFS™ equipped firearms, and orders from new dealers will be accepted starting September 23rd. This is your opportunity to buy the best new product in this market segment. Don’t let it slip by. Please contact your Franklin Armory™ sales representative or call us directly at 775-783-4313.
