Here`s an oddball one. 1968 Remington XP-100, rifle, chambered in .218 Bee. It is a single-shot bench gun, with a 22” heavy tapered stainless barrel (7/8” dia. at the muzzle) and wide forend custom stock. It has a Nichols 4-12x44mm scope that was turned to (I assume) to make it easier to load. I received it this morning and went right to the range. It shoots the factory HSM ammo loaded with Calhoon 37 grain DHP bullets, extremely well (see #5 shot, 100 yard group). I will be developing some loads using the same Calhoon bullets, some 35 grain Hornady NTX bullets and the 40 grain Nosler BTs. The trigger is adjusted down to approximately 1.5 lbs. I will be swapping the scope to one with more high-end power.
Slight Annoyances, but not enough to make me change things right now:
- Trigger shoe sits at the back end of the guard. It does not affect function.
- Trigger guard is screwed in with wood screws.
- The HSM ammo will not chamber from the single-shot "tray". I just feed the cartridges a bit further and into the chamber.
Interested if anyone has seen this one before or has any thoughts/info, as the seller was liquidating an estate and did not know much about the build. No barrel markings. No stock information. Chamber is definitely a tight .218 Bee. I don`t think this rifle was shot very often. Btw, the Winchester shot terribly. I`ll save it for my lever-action. #218BEE
