Swift Fox (Vulpes macrotis)


Also known as a kit fox. Found in the southwest region. Known to challenge other predators for dens. Can run up to 25-mph, hence the name "swift". Tends to spend time out in the open range areas. Mostly nocturnal, usually mates for life. Height: (at shoulder) 12", weight: 3-6 pounds, breeding Jan.-Feb. Number of young: 3-5 born about 3' underground in a barren den.
