Coyote (Canis latrans)


Carnivorous mammal; of the dog family, canidae, order carnivora.
Smaller than gray wolves, most red wolves and domestic dogs; narrower nose pad; the ears are longer than wolve's. Nineteen subspecies exist; weighing 15 to 40lbs and usually gray. Communication is by howling; very keen sense of smell. The Coyotes' range has expanded to include areas from Central America to northern Alaska and all through the United States and most of Canada. Diverse diet: they sometimes eat domestic animals. Winter diet includes carrion. Breeding occurs from January to March and females produce an average of six pups.
