Bobcat (Felis rufus)

The Bobcat, is a distinct species in the Lynx genus. However, the Bobcat is slightly smaller averaging 15 to 30 pounds. Bobcats found in the Southern parts of their range are darker and smaller, while cats in the North are usually paler and larger. Bobcat are solitary, only pairing up to breed. One male may breed several females. Hunting by stealth, they use their exceptional sight and hearing to help locate prey. They will stalk closely and make a quick pounce, using their short lived speed only when necessary. Normally nocturnal, they are very secretive, able to live near man, unnoticed for years. When hunting, patience is normally the number one rule.
