I've seen many good topics turn to jabs for no reason than to stir the crap about the 17 HMR and the 22 Magnum.  Enough already.  I'm tired of wading through the debates to get to the information at hand.

For example, if there is a post about .22 Magnum ammunition, there is no reason for someone to interject a totally off topic jab about the .17 HMR.  I can understand the passion about a caliber, but this takes it a bit too far.   blink.gif

This forum is a place to come and enjoy talk with others about what they enjoy, rimfires.  So, keep threads on topic as much as possible and keep the debates to a minimum.

I will say this.  The debates show that we all love this stuff, but I would hate to miss out on some great information because I didn't read a thread due to excessive bashing.  I would probably not be shooting the .17HM2, if I believed all the venom spewed about the caliber.  It is now my favourite rimfire caliber.  I shutter to think all the great shooting I would have missed out on had I listened to all the nay-sayers...

So, respectfully, I ask everyone to curtail their bashing and enjoy the Rimfire Forum for its diversity and acceptance of all calibers...  (Sounds like I should be a politician  laugh.gif ).

I have  22 LR ,22WMR 17 HM2 ,and 17 HMR rifles. They are all fine rounds. Each has it`s good point and limitations.  I have entered the bullet diameter,  weight, BC , ft/sec velocity and point blank range into the ballisitics program at www.huntingnut.com for each rimfire round.  I now have rimfire rifles with the scopes set for the yards that that matches my type of shooting.

I do haft to say, for all the back and forth on the 17 and the 22, it's not nearly as bad here as it is on just about any of the auto forums I post on...  People there will argue for 300 posts back and forth over the dumbest stuff you have ever seen...  Stuff like which color is the coolest, whos car is the coolest (the funny part is it will be two guys who have the same year and model with a diff options package)....

At any rate, lets keep the banter down, that is something I really like here, less fighting...  Why direct all that anger at people who like a difrent cal when you could be directing it at any number of fluffys that are trying to steal or wreck any number of your crops/fruits or whatever.

hello. i am new here. i live in southeast missouri and do as much hunting and shooting here as possible. i to have heard some of the goofiest comments on this. i have each rimfire mentioned in these discussions and can say, in my opinion, theres not enough difference between them to argue about. a person doesnt buy a .338 mag to squirrel hunt. in the same manner a person doesnt buy a rimfire for a 400 yd varmit gun. the 22 mag will kill a coyote, no doubt. i have done it, as many here have with probably more experience than i. the 17 mach2 will kill a coyote. yes i have done that also. not at 200 yds, but thats not what the cartridge was designed to do. with a rimfire a person has to know its limits. all guns have there own. when i am working on getting really good pelts. rimfires are my choice. alot of people say its wrong to shoot anything  bigger than a butterfly with a 17 or 22, what a load. at 100yds even the mach2 has at least 66ft/lbs of energy, but some say its only good on prarie dogs out to 80 yds... if 1200ft/lbs is good on a 300lb mule deer, why is 66ft/lbs not acceptable on a prarie dog? are we giving varmits and predators more credit than our game animals? also even rimfire fans cut down the calibers they dont shoot. one example, the hmr messes up small game to much. dont know about you, but i dont eat the head anyway and never go for a shoulder shot even with a 22lr. i do not hunt with a rimfire because i have to, but because i want to. i like shooting each and all of them. i keep my shots to under 125 yds and never have any trouble. everything from rabbits, squirrels, coon, fox, bobcat and yes coyotes will fall to any of these little rifles. which one is best? take your pick, you cant go wrong. thank you.
