Would like to buy a pcp air rifle to combat starlings in my back yard. Can anyone recommend one that is reasonable price and dependable (if there is such a thing) and a place to buy it.. Shooting 25 ft or less and prefer .177. Thanks

There is a vast array of guns to choose from and prices vary a lot. The PCP guns require support equipment to provide the high pressure air which often discourages new shooters. There are a few PCP's that have a built in pump like the like the American Tactical Nova Freedom and the much higher priced FX Independence which can use support equipment or supply their own which may be attractive. I know several shooters that have bought the Nova Freedom and found it met their needs nicely for noise and two separate power choices.
Other pneumatic guns such as C02 and single/multiple pump rifles don't require the support equipment a PCP does and are quite similar in how they feel while being shot (little felt recoil). This class of guns is typically much less expensive and not as powerful but can take out a Starling beyond your 25 feet.
All pneumatic guns can be loud unless there is a system built in or added (if legal) to quiet them down. The higher the power the more noise is possible.
Another issue is where they are used. It's not uncommon for cities to make firing projectile weapons illegal in city limits so know your laws before purchase.
Below are some sites I frequent to keep up on the airgun scene and several of the providers.
Good luck on your search...

Perfect situation for a nice pumper and the one that most comes to mind would be my old trusty Sheridan .20 cal. Excellent info from Thwakkk above. Keep us posted Buck1. Starlings were one of my favorite all time targets.
