This week we take the new Garrow Firearms Development 17HMR upper to Northern Arizona for a prairie dog hunt!  We slay a bunch of marauding prairie dogs and put the GFD 17HMR to the test out in the field, with heat, dust and everything else we run into while roaming the high desert.  The upper functioned well, with no glitches and proved to be very accurate.  The full review and range report will be published next week.

Rifle Configuration:

Garrow Firearms Development 17HMR Upper
Aero Precision Gen 1 Lower (Burnt Bronze)
Magpul STR Stock
Bushnell Rimfire Optics 6-18x40mm Scope

Check it out!

Yep, this 17HMR thingy might just end up being a "thing"!

They run $599 for the complete upper kit (includes a couple of magazines, a different buffer and buffer spring), but can fit on most any AR15 lower.

Nice looking set up. If I didn’t already have the franklin, this would have to be in my Xmas stocking...wish the franklin magazines were $25.

I would ask for this for xmas, but I been a bad boy again, as usual, so I'll probably just have to buy it for one of those "from me to me" presents and hope the wife ain't home when it gets here.  LOL

$600 and it will fit the lower I already have is getting much closer to my budget! That and they are CA compliant....

If I have anything left after paying taxes this year, This might be this year's rifle!  I so wanted to build one of the 10-22 mag conversions, But they had so many problems. This may be the answer! DR

I enjoyed the review, but our nanny-state government(s) here in Canada don't allow AR-15s to be used for any kind of hunting.  They enjoy "restricted" status like handguns do=special license, and can only be used at a sanctioned range.  Ugh...

Anyhow, some very interesting stuff you guys have available to you down there...like this upper!

Eric,

Did you use a normal hammer spring for the trigger on the lower?

Curious if a standard trigger will have any light strikes on the 17hmr.....
