Grandson raises chickens, sells the eggs and young chicks.  Called me last night and said he heard a coyote howling pretty close to their property.  Asked if I could come out and try to call him in.  He and I went out this morning, used chicken in distress call.  Within minutes we saw him coming in, grandson could not get a good clear shot but grandpa could.

Good job Chief.... One less trouble maker.

I just played it on my e-caller, did you hear it?  It sounds like a chicken in distress.  Next time your around a flock of chickens, or even just one, chase it a bit and the sound they make will be like what I played.  I have tried to duplicate it with a closed and open reed call but can't.

Here's an example from Varmintal's page and he has free downloads. Could differ greatly from Chief's E-caller however....  http://www.varmintal.com/chicken.mp3

You might have to go directly to Al's page to get the sound to work....  http://www.varmintal.com/ahunt.htm

Mike - I also have many dry stands but it's kinda like fishing if they are not biting on one bait switch to another.  I most always start a stand with a squeaker only two or three squeaks then I switch to whatever sound I think will work for the area I'm in.  I ALWAYS end a stand with pup in distress regardless of what time of the years it is.  I also use the squeaker if I have one that holds up, most times the squeaker of lip squeak will bring them in closer.

Good information Chief, thanks..! Nice sidearm as well. Looks like it's wrapped in Bianchi leather.  Signature makes good common sense.
