Pays to be patient. I was surfing an auction site last night and came across a NIB ruger 77/17 in 17 WSM that was way, way cheaper than retail. Called the guy up to make sure it wasn't a "too good to be true" type deal. He confirmed condition and just like that it's on its way...

2 lb trigger and glass embedding and we will be ready for chucks/sage rats for sure.

Yep....You're going to enjoy that shooter.

Let us know how it shoots.

I need to buy a new rifle and the Ruger 77/17WSM is on the list of choices.

My nephew bought this gun about 6 months ago, I shot it once and new I had to have one....I actually bought this one for my 16 year old son, so a second one may be in my future (if I can fight off the urge for the Franklin)

Wow, now the day after making this happen I'm hearing the Ruger is discontinuing the 77/17,22,357, and 44. Not sure how many of the 17WSMs were made, but glad I got at least one before they go away.

The 77/17 is available in 17 hmr, 17 wsm and 17 hornet.

Are all three being discontinued? Or is this just temporary while new versions are released?

A new version is coming, I'm sure.

I've seen speculation it might be the American....something at a lower price I assume.

it'd be a shame. The 77 series are nice rifles.

Don't know, but I'm glad I got one. No doubt, the next model will most likely be cheaper & plastic...that seems to be the future with all guns. I have never been a fan of plastic, composite or whatever term you want to use. I like wood, the more nicely figured; the better. It's well worth the extra money.

I looked at the 'American' and I don't want to denigrate them. They are less money, they may be a great value, they may be accurate, I don't know.

The 77's have gotten more pricey, maybe too pricey. However, I like the 77's better. I'm on my second one and my son has one. I'm talking rimfire here, not centerfire. I doubt they'll stop making the 77/17WSM. But I could see them dropping the .22 and 17HMR perhaps and going with the American line. I wouldn't trade my 77/22 for an American is all I can say. In fact that might be one of a few that I'll never let go.

"We have discontinued all the 77 Rotary models for the time being."

wonder what that means exactly?  It does say ALL. So I guess that includes the 77/22Hornet also.

Not like I was planning to go buy another. Glad I have the one I do. When they went away from the easily changeable barrel to the threaded one they became less desirable for me.
