One of the most anticipated new products at the 2014 SHOT Show was Franklin Armory's new "F 17-L".  This rifle is the world's first AR15 chambered in the .17 Winchester Super Magnum rimfire caliber and should be a hit for predator callers, varmint hunters and even hobby shooters, who want a rimfire with power more like a centerfire.  Our Review Editor, Will Chambers, spoke with Franklin Armory and got the specs and some nice close-up pictures of this new, unique, rifle.

This rifle also opens up more AR15 options for customers in states like California.

Specs:
20" Full-Heavy Contour Barrel
Free float fluted and vented handguard
FA Proprietary billet upper and lower receivers
FA factory custom tuned trigger

Available:  Approximately, June of 2014 from Franklin Armory (http://www.franklinarmory.com)

I don't think I'll have the money for one of those, let alone the money for all the ammo I would shoot through it at ground squirrels... :(

Thanks for the video interview. Everything I had read about this gun mentions that it was designed for CA shooters but no one could tell me what made it CA friendly till now! Thanks again DR

I'd be interested to know more about this rifle and Franklin Armory in general.

1) Not knowing anything about them - How does Franklin quality & accuracy compare with Rock River, DPMS, etc.

2) They make a 6.8 SPC, so could the lower for the 6.8 (or any AR) be used with the F17-L upper or vice versa?

3) Price?

4) Their website does not provide some specifics such as rifle weight, etc.

5) Is the 16" H-Bar upper available in the 6.8SPC? .

Franklin quality is great. Don't know yet if other uppers will work on the lower but suspect they will. Price is about $1800.00. The tech data on the gun has not been posted yet. Yes I've already payed for mine and it is supposed to ship in June.

Eric, when it gets here you can borrow it and burn up a paycheck or two.

Yikes. I was hoping $1200 or $1300 and that's a stretch. Not gonna to spend that kinda jack. Volquartsen is even higher and some of their HMR's had issues. I'm doomed to wait for a quality bolt action alternative to show up. Tsallrite, been getting by without one for over 50 years.

Me too, and that is what I would have preferred right from the start. Don't even have an interest in a black gun at any price. I still wish CZ would take on the project  ;)

See now I sometimes miss my old AR. I could like a powerfull gas auto rimfire. After a few of the Volquartsen safety problems with their HMR's and reluctance to fix them, I wouldn't go there at any price and especially for $2000. Alas, I'm not spending $1800 on the gas gun either. I could not be happy with myself spending that kind of money for the amount of time I'd actually be using it which likely isn't all that often. I might be able to justify $1200 if it could have a seperate centerfire upper.

Not buying a B-Mag either. At least until enough time has passed when I'm assured not to get a dud and/or they start making some that are a little more substantial.

C'mon CZ!!

Nevermind, I'll wait....
