Thanks for resurrecting An old post, I'm always interested in what other hunters shoot.
Varmints for me are mostly ground squirrels, and most shots are under 75 yds. So my favorites are rimfires. Marlin 80, Glenfield 25,and a couple of Marlins I converted to 17 cal.

This marlin converted from 22 mag to 17HMR using a Green mountain barrel.

and this Marlin 22lr converted to 17 M 2.

Its the rifle on the bottom. I've even taken a few coyotes with this one! They were in the wrong place and I was holding this rifle at the time!

Here's another I converted using a Redman liner. I built this one for a friend from his grandfathers Sears rifle. it had been cleaned with a steel rod till there wasn't much of the chamber left. But the wood stock was one of the best I've found!

You cant really see it well in this pic but the wood has at least 4 colors running through it including green and purple! and has an iridesant quality to it. So its a looker and it shoots! I still shoot this rifle every chance I get!

My Ruger All Weather would be the ticket. Horandy rounds fly at 4250 fps. Sorry about the crappy picture.

When I first got a Winchester Mdl 70 270 in 1949 and started reloading 100 grain bullets in 1950 I used it for shooting any unwonted critters that showed up out in the rural area where I grew up. It was my varmint - big game rifle . It was my only center fire rifle I had until 1956 when I got a Sako 222 Rem. Over the years I have gotten 17, 204, 22, and 243 varmint rifles but my old 270 was accurate so that I could shoot prairie dogs at 300 yards. So as a teenager I had one fine varmint rifle. When I was a little older the 270 also shot pronghorn, mule deer, and elk.

So many rifles so little time. I think my favorite is the one I am using on any given day. If forced to pick though it would be my CZ 527 .19 Badger.

Think Troutbum has my answer. What I'm using at the time, especially if it's a good day. Today wasn't a good day for shooting but spent it with a friend. Saw a lizard, two squirrels and a song dog....nothing that we were in a position to shoot. Had the small Martini in 222 out today and right now I am thinking about all the previous great times I've had with it......so it's my favorite for today and until I open the safe and pick a new favorite.

My favorite is a Ruger 77-220 swift, load 55gr.V max above a charge of 4064 to about 3800 FPS. 1.5 inches low at 100 yards, zero at 200 and 5.4 low at 300 yards. pretty much makes it a dead hold shot out to 300 yards on a coyote.

On the more windy days I like the Ruger 77 243, load 85 HPBT game kings above a charge of IMR 4350 makes a deadly coyote killer as well as deer and every thing in between.

Well out of the 3: Bmag, Axis .223, or the ruger american .17hmr....tough one. I like that axis for its accuracy and ability to kill with ease. The Bmag has to prove a lot for it to climb my ladder and the Ruger lacks long range power but is so nice on fur, but I'm gonna have to say the Axis .223 shooting some 40gr Win. Varmintx bullets is my grab for everything gun.

1. Rem 870 12ga

3. Marlin .22

My favorite rifle is the one I'm shooting at the time. I have a bias toward my single shots...small and large Martini (17 Ack. Bee, 222, 223, 219 Zipper Imp., 218 Bee ), Rem. Hepburn in 6x51 R, Browning 78 in multiple calibers, Rem Rolling Block, Sharps ( 50x140 I know but it's fun on squirrels and Coyotes). I have a number of the ones mentioned in different rimfire. Todays favorites include a 26 Nosler for long range and Browning T-bolts in 22 Mag and 17 HMR. Like I've said earlier I've bought a bunch in 2014 and seem to be continuing the trend in 2015. Trying to average at least 6 a month ( sort of an in your face to California and Kamila Harris!). I do have a 218 Bee barrel set up for a small Martini that is available to anyone interested at a stupidly cheap or maybe free price.

You fellas sure have nice rifles! All I have now for a varmint rifle is my Savage .17 WSM. It kills everything I shoot at. My tricked out match grade Savage 93 HMR is semi retired.
