I'm new and dumb don't shoot yet. I have had a Savage 110E in 7mm Mag. for 30 years I never shoot it. It kicks my butt. Is it worth changing to another caliber? I'm no gun smith as you can tell. But I am handy with tools. Or just sell it and buy something else? sad.gif

If you are looking to get out of the magnum.....couple choices. Sell it outright and buy what you want. Change the barrel, bolt face, magazine box, follower to make it just about anything you want......its pretty simple to do but its up to you how much trouble you want to put into a relatively cheap gun to start with. I just did my sons Savage .....definitely very simple. I think you would have less trouble if you change it to stick with something that requires a long action .....25-06 etc. I defer to others with much more experience..................

Keep it, if you handload there are several different companies that make bullets in the 100 to 120 grain range. a 100 grain bullet from a 7mm rem mag at 3400-3500 fps feels like a 100 gr bullet from a 25-06 at the same velocity. The only variable worth calculating is the weight of the rifle

I received the MidwayUSA monthly sale flyer today. If you want to re-barrel your Savage 110 to a varmint caliber, MidwayUSA has Adams & Bennett barrels on sale at a pretty big discount. You will probably need a few other parts, but some members here can tell you what you need.

Also, the MidwayUSA sale flyer says if you use the promotional code “Savage1” you can get a free barrel-nut wrench; normally $40.

Sell it & buy a new one... You'll be glad you did smile.gif

You didn't mention what you are going to use the new caliber for. Targets, mice, moose, squirrels, yotes, or?

If squirrels, rabbits, fox & targets are the main game, then I vote for a 223

If mostly for coyotes, bobcat & such I like the 204 Ruger

If a combo varmint/deer caliber, a 243 sure is sweet

deer only... sky's the limit, from 243, 25/06 & 270 etc etc

Good Luck in Your Decision
