Mag-Check
Well I called OSSI today, I just could'nt get it out of my head of how or why OSSI was asking so much for there 35gr. Coyote killer ammo. Well got a chance to talk to the main man there at OSSI and he said that they were using a CCI +V case and doing the loading themselves and are getting 2,265fps!!!! out of that round not 2,065fps. He said that it is more accurate then anything else on the market to around 30yds. more then any other round! Now Ive got to try some of this stuff! Going to work tomorow and see if any of the 22 mag shooters want to try some of this ammo maybe order 10boxes! Mag-check
Red
to around 30 yards?

doesn't sound like much of a sales pitch to me.
Mag-Check
Out to 30yds. further then any other magnum round! In the rimfire world thats a bunch! Were talking around 380ft.lbs of K/E! maybe a little more Ill have to check. Mag-Check
Mag-Check
It would be 398.65!!!!! O My Im getting light headed blink.gif Ive got to go lie down! Mag-Check
Pecci
Mag-Check, I thought you already tried it several weeks back? Or was that another OSSI round?

I still don't think those #'s justify $23 per box, --- out of my pocket, anyway.

Keep us posted.
Red
ah, I misunderstood. Thought he was touting the accuracy at 30 yards.
shooter
Cheaper than a 5mm Mag tongue.gif
Eric Mayer
Why the heck would you need 10 boxes to try that stuff out (which is what I would do before I ordered that many)? One, maybe two if needed to shake it out and see what it can do.

I would still opt for the 5mm and pay double! tongue.gif

Eric cool.gif
Red
I think you both accidentally been getting too much residual lead in your diets. blink.gif

Too rich for my blood.
Glen
I sure do like my 17HMR. tongue.gif laugh.gif
Mag-Check
Eric, Whats a 5mm? laugh.gif No just kidding wink.gif We have alot of 22 magnum shooters at work I thought some would like to try this new stuff! Mag-Check
Glen
Thats how you do it M-C!! Make them guys pay for it too! laugh.gif Good call. Then you can say,, "But honey,, all the guys at work are trying it! sad.gif "

The last time I heard that, I was a teen in high school. anim_rofl2.gif

Hey Mag-Check,

I just ordered you a box of 50 Coyote Killers. They most likely ship out on Tuesday. When you get them, test em, kill some stuff with them and write it up (take lots of pictures too)!!

You owe me a story on this stuff now! ohmy.gif

Happy New Year!

Eric A. Mayer cool.gif
Mag-Check
What? Your kidding me! Mag-check
Pecci
No better guy to test it out! That's very generous of you Eric.

Mag-Check, we all look forward to your report. By the way, did you test another OSSI round, a while back?
Mag-Check
Eric is a great guy loves to hunt, shoot! I will try my best on giving the best info I can. Pecci I shot the old OSSI a few years back shot good Chronographed a little slower the they velocity they gave me, but never shot it at game. The ammo I was talking about the last time is this very same ammo but its going alot faster then the 2,060fps. that they gave at the time. Like I said I talked to the people at OSSI the other day and they said +V case for strength .007 longer case and a compressed load at 2,265fps!! That sheds new light on the subject if you know what I mean biggrin.gif Mag-Check

Eric,

It is guys like you and some others on this page that give hunters a VERY good name. Keep up the good work all.

Looking forward to your report Mag-Check.

Mag-check, I sent an email to the owner and asked for a write-up on this stuff if those velocities are true then we have a 22mag with trajectory closer to the 17HMR with quite an improvement in retained energy. Heck correct me if I,m wrong it's pretty close to the 5mm mag. Not quite a "coyote killer" in my book but I might take a stab at one close range if the numbers turn out to be true.

If this stuff is for real I will pay the price, hopefully the OSSI guy will shed some light on this for us.

I will post his reply here when I get it.

Here is the info I get correct me if I'm wrong

If its true it looks reeeeeeeaaaal good! I have been dissapointed by the last OSSI load they better not dissapoint this time!
Red
I look forward to the report too. The 30g fodder I've tried so far doesn't shoot so great in mine. Maybe the 35's would do better? and at 300fps faster than the 40g maxi-mags I've been shooting.

I would love to see what it'll do to a tree squirrel, splat!
Glen
So how did all this play out?? biggrin.gif Is it that fast?? Is it that accurate??

Inquiring mind(s) want to know. laugh.gif
Mag-Check
Glen, the OSSI Coyotes killers shot at 2,265fps. out of my Ruger for 5 shots I also have some of the Std OSSI 35gr. ammo and it didnt shoot to its 2,020fps. spec but both are very accurate both shot in the mid 4s at 50yds. Ive shot rabbits and squirrels and a cat smile.gif with both and like the Remington 33gr. V-max and the CCI 30gr. V-max ammo they are very explosive. Ive killed coyotes with the Rem V-max ammo so I know the Coyote killers should work good, but at close range I would stick with head or neck shots out to 100yds. I wouldnt be afraid past 100yds. to try a behind the shoulder shot. Maybe this winter I'll get a chance to try them on a coyote and I'll have some pics.

Glen I'll send you a box to try if you want!
Glen
Thanks M-C. I still have 3 more boxes of ammo to run thru my WMR!! laugh.gif I might take you up on your offer later tho!! biggrin.gif
Mag-Check
Shoot me your address when you get time. I'll send you half a box of both OSSI ammo some of the New Rem V-max and some of the very first Rem V-max ammo loaded in Arkansas its collector stuff only not for shooting, and maybe some of the RWS for collector ammo if your a good boy! anim_rofl2.gif
KTG
Let us know how it does on live targets. You probably have a lot more opportunity than I have being around DC in the winter.

I have fired coyote killer at the range and it is VERY accurate in one rifle and just pretty accurate (1") in the other. I won't quote the first # because you all wouldn't believe me anyway.
I'll try it in the CZ 611 when I get a scope on it but the coyote load can be a little long for some clips.

I'll get out the chrono in the spring.

Let us know.

Kimon

PS Still have that new 611 looking for a home.
Mag-Check
I wouldnt shoo the Coyote killers in a auto! smile.gif
KTG
The OSSI coyote loads shoot better in my rebarreled Kimber than any other .22M ammo i've tried in that rifle(many, many types- yes I need to get a life)) and if I told you all the group size you wouldn't believe me anyway. It shot around an inch&1/4 in my girlfirends 22mag so like all ammo, it depends on the rifle.

At 2265fps for a 35g Hornady bullet (not 30g as in the Hornady or CCI loads), it would seem to be worth trying out in your rifles for bigger varments than ground squirrels and pdogs.

Keep those rimfires shooting.

just try me laugh.gif

so did you try them in the 611? I know they don't "recommend" it but just curious.
KTG
Sad to say not yet. I have not put a scope on the 611 and it only has a few shots thru it.
I am looking to sell it because i have too many guns (yea I know what you all will say).

So if it shoots miniture groups, will one of you buy it?

KTG
Red
eh not me. I already have a 22M auto...and don't need two.

Plain Old Bill might be intersted?
KTG
I tested the OSSI Coyote Killer round in my Brno 611 and it functioned perfectly. I tried about
a box thru it.

I ws able to hit a golf ball 6 times in a row with open sites at 50yds.

I put a 2x7 wa scope on it and they averaged about 1 1/8' for 3 5 shot groups at 100 yds.
One group was around 3/4". Could be me and my old eyes because I usually use a higher power scope than 7x.

At any rate, have any of you guys used this round on gound hogs or coyotes?
Please let me know. BTW it shoots sub 1" from my Kimber.

KTG

PS I sold the 611 last week. Too many guns, not enough money.
Red
Interesting. Makes me want to try them in the 10-22M.

I still think you'll be kicking yourself for selling the 611 tho wink.gif I sold my old 77/22 and even though I have another, I'm now wishing I had kept it.
catsniper
The last time I shot for groups with this stuff I believe I got a .47 or .45 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Have not killed anything with it yet, but it hits a heavy duty spinner target harder than anything else.
Red
Now THAT IS impressive.

Was that the very best group of the day? I'll assume it was and there's nothing wrong with relaying your best, but was the overall average similar, or at least in the 1" or less catagory?

What kind of rifle?

catsniper
I shot one group with the ossi one with about three other rounds. I only have a few rounds left and need to get some more. Shot them out of an anschutz 1720. The whole box shot really well at 50 and various targets. 50 yard groups were .2's and .3's.
Red
Cool.

Yeah no sense wasting them on paper any more than necessary.
Drumie
Ok guys. All this talk about the Coyote Killers and now I gotta go buy myself a 22 Mag. Thanks. Does anyone know if there will be a problem fitting them into a Ruger mag?

AMMOe
There better not be! As to grouping: I have a Marlin 882SSV that will shoot .6 at 100 with Federal over-the-counter ammo so I (myself) wouldn't be too surprised at .5" from custom ammo. My CZ will shoot like my Marlin with loads it is fond of. It will definitely pop a ground squirrels head at 90 - 100 yards, as PMI will attest!~AMMOe
Drumie
Well i did it guys. All this talk of the coyote killers and i went out and got a Ruger K77/22-VMBZ. I just ordered some of the OSSI Coyote Killers to go with it. I put a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14X40mm on it. I think this is going to be a great set up. It is pretty light. I will give you guys a range report and let you know what velocities I am getting with this set up.
catsniper
Great gun, scope, and ammo. What could possibly go wrong? Sounds like a top shelf setup.
Drumie
Has anyone ordered from Outland Sales recently? I ordered a couple boxes of the coyote killers over 2 weeks ago and haven't heard back from them. I sent them a email 3 days ago and haven't heard back from that yet either. I was just wondering what is up with them????
Drumie
I just got a email from Mike at Outlandsales. I guess he has been out ill. He is going to get my order shipped right out.
