Is there any certain type of copper removing cleaner I should not be useing on this barrel.Thought I've read that the ammonium based cleaners well show blue residue on the patch from the chrome,so you never know when the copper is really all off.Getting old can't remember dry.gif

After the copper fouling from bullet jackets is cleaned out, sometimes the blue copper indication persists on the patches because of the copper content in the jags and brushes. The copper solvent actually dissolves the some of the copper in the jags and brushes.

Just found out that you shouldn't use any agressive cleaners on a chorme lined or chrome moly barrels.More are damaged by agressive cleaning then worn by shooting.Need to get some CLP then, and a good borebrush and go at it that way.

You are going to need to remove the copper in the barrel if its there. I use Wipe-Out it's a great cleaner and easy on everything but the finish on your dinning room table. shockedcamo.gif You foam your barrel and then run a patch through it the next morning and that's it. No more copper and it's shooting great again. biggrin.gif

I've used amonia-based cleaners on chrome-lined barrels. I never noticed a problem huh.gif

I've heard that wipe-out is pretty good going to have to try some.I'm just going to use some Sweet's 7.62 that I've got and not worry about it.

Sweet's in ammonia-based cleaner. I use Barnes CR-10 and will stick with it. I also use carb cleaner to get the carbon ring which forms in my .17Rem about 8 inches from the chamber; many benchrest guys use it, so it's good enough for my field guns. I've also used USB bore paste alot; especially on guns that I've picked up at an auction and haven't been cleaned in decades.

I think by 'agressive cleaning' people may be referring to going crazy with a cleaning rod and messing up the muzzle crown. Any cleaner that'd dedicated to rifles will most likely be just fine.
