I was just wondering what cleaning methods you AR shooters use. I've been using Hoppe's which does a pretty good job, but today I was having a hard time getting all of the bolt pieces to come clean, I used a tooth brush on the stubborn items and it worked out o.k. Is there a solvent you can soak the pieces in and the black gunk just falls off, or is that wishfull thinking?
Thanks

I clean my AR's with Brakeclean It really takes off the gunk. I spray the bolt inside and out. BUT brakeclean removes all the oil so then after a good spray down out comes all the oil she can drink.

Its funny you reccomend brakeclean. I was talking to a friend of mine whom I work with about this today and he said brakeclean is the $h!t. The beautiful thing is I have a can of brakeclean in my work truck. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks Timezoneguy!

I'll echo the brakeclean recommendation (we even used that in the Corps, albeit in our barracks room, out of sight since we weren't supposed to use anything but CLP and hot water). A solvent tank/parts cleaner is also another option if you have access.
Harbor Freight sells them fairly cheap. If you have a few AR's or competitively shoot, they're worth having around...
