Can someone please explain turrets to me? I understand there are a lot of factors the go in to setting them up such as BC, temperature, altitude, velocity, and bullet weight, but all that stuff change a lot day to day with different loads. they don't seem very practical to me. If so, how do I go about getting a set specific for my gun and scope? They seem impossible to get for my scope. I just have a simmons aetec 4-12X44. Any info would be appreciated.

I'll give it a try. For the most part, turrets can't be changed. If you want Target style turrets you have to buy a scope that comes with them. I think your real question is' "How to come up with a drop table?" For that, you need a computer program like

http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/ballistics/traj...traj_basic.html

or one of the other programs available on the web. I use a program that works in MS Excel. I set up my rifle with my standend load at my home range. If I'm going Prairie dog shooting in the Dakotas, I enter the alt and forcast temps into my program and print out a Come Up Card for those conditions. It won't be exact but it will be close.

The come ups are printed on address labels and stuck to a piece of plastic that I keep with my ammo.

thanks Jerr.

I'm new to this whole long distance shooting thing. I've mostly been a woodland deer hunter so long distance shots are rare for me. I'm trying to get into ghog and coyote hunting. its a lot of fun but a steep learning curve. I believe i'm sarting to under stand in now though.

So i guess if i want turrets that means a different scope for me?... And a computer program.

There are a lot of free ballistic programs on the internet I can email you a copy of mine if you want. There are also some good Long Range shooting forums like

Jerr

Does your program utilize bullet BC? If so, can you use different ones like G1 or G7?
Jerrschmitt
There is a place to enter Bullet BC. I believe it is based on G1
