I decided yesterday was the day to finally decide whether or not I was going to pull the scope from my 50 year old BRNO#2 and keep it for open sight shooting, while elevating my new CZ 452 to scoped "carry rifle" status. I bought this CZ some time back and it has remained in the box awaiting my final decision.

Yesterday was almost windless so I took th BRNO out for it's last fling with glass on board. I set my Weaver 1.4-4.5X variable for 4X, adjusted the elevation to my 100 yard sub-sonic setting, loaded five rounds of old Wolf Match in the magazine and proceeded to fire this group:

You might want to consult a shrink if you break up that marriage! There are lots of good buys on used Leupold scopes that would do your CZ proud. It deserves a chance to strut it's stuff too.

Congrats on a fine rifle.

Oh yes, I have plenty of glass worthy of the CZ but as long as I get that kind of accuracy from the BRNO I don't feel the need to give it up just yet! I have carried that rifle for 27 years. It's kind of hard to put down. I've killed more game with this rifle than most of my others combined.~AMMOe

Just for reference: I shot Aguila 40 grain HV into 1.06 at the same distance while just aiming at a blank corner of a folded over target someone left on the backer.

I'm with you there.
I did pull the scope off of the BRNO tonight. I do it every 5 or 6 years anyhow as the stock is not exactly scope friendly, drop-wise, and I've always admired the sleek business-like affect of the gun with no glass on board. My eyes are still good enough for 100 yard shooting over irons so I'll happily carry it as-is for a bit. The CZ may get a work out sometime soon, or not. I'm in no hurry. The test fire target was sterling, and the bedding looks fine. I know this one will shoot!~AMMOe

I got the same dilema with my CZ ultra lux. I have some glass sitting on top of her right now, but she is so much fun to shoot with them roll up iron sights. I'm tempted to pull the cheaters off until I launch a few rounds down range. What an awesome .22 I have never tried any of that Wolf...looks like it shoots more than adequate wink.gif

Frankly, some Wolf Match is, some is just "ok". The stuff I shot that day was some I bought for $14.95 a brick years ago. Some of the newer stuff tested recently wouldn't shoot with my Aguila hunting ammo when rated on accuracy, standard deviation, and extreme spread.

I know what you mean with regards to your Lux. My old Brno just looks right with no glass on board. I ran it out the edge of town tonight and didn't miss. wink.gif ~AMMOe

That is a nice looking rifle. Just out of curiosity, how long is that barrel?

Thanks Greg...The barrell is 28 inches and while sitting in the gun shop rack it stuck out like a sore thumb. As soon as it was handed to me, I knew I was going to buy it. When shouldered and you look down that long barrel, the sights and target just seem to automatically line up.... It's hard to explain, but it is so iron sight friendly, it becomes difficult to put glass on top. And it is just plain fun to shoot her with open sights....And it is deadly accurate using iron sights and with optics it becomes a serious tack driver. Definately one of my favorite and wisest gun aquisitions.
