Hi long time no post! Just thought I would report on the effect of this round on groundhogs. This is the only round that shoots worth a darn in my 982vs. I shot it thru 2 2 liters of water which was unexpected because other rimfire v-max would not do. penetration was good on that so time to move to live media. Shot this 12# or so female at about 90 yrds with only shot she would give, thru the neck. Entrance hole was small but exit hole was about 3-4x the size of a 22 bullet. Also bleeding out the ears and mouth was apparent. Really wanted a upper body shot but not this time. This seems to have some good punch but not the blow up inside that i expected. Must not have hit enough tissue.

I ran these through my CZ last year and got shoot-throughs 66% of the time on rabbits at ranges where the bullet should have disintegrated. I wasn't impressed as to its expansive abilities.~AMMOe

On the plus side I do not care for the v-max that explodes inside to quickly because penetration suffers greatly. On bigger critters I like the extra penetration. I would have preferred a hollow point t but they did not shoot for crap in my marlin. What does your cz like if i might ask?

Try em on head shots. They might need more bone to make them do what you want. On the other hand you might get the extra penetration you're wanting with this bullet & it shoots good for you.

It likes almost everything including the V-Max for accuracy. For first choice I like the Federal 30 grain Classic. It shoots an inch from my CZ 452, easily (with a good Lot), and at 2300+ and a roll-plated lead bullet, it kills the crap out of everything from groundsquirrels to large rabbits. Down on the Mexican border in 115 degree heat I have caused alfalfa marauding cotton tails to explode out to 90-100 yards. I have never hit a prairiedog that didn't die right then and there.~AMMOe

My Winchester 9422M acts like a whole different rifle with the 30gr V-Max. The same goes for an old Rossi pump that I've resurrected from the gun safe. While both guns shoot the CCI 30gr JHP well they really shine with the ballistic tip. I've yet to fire it from my Ruger Single Six. I ought to get out to the range this weekend and give it a go. If it works well I may have to scope the pistol again and take it out in the field.

My Savage 65M loves these rounds, but I agree on things like soft rabbits they dont expand all that great but it does kill them on impact. I shot a small coon at about 75 yrds right through the teeth one afternoon and the exit wound in back of the skull was pretty nasty. But they just dont have the explosivness of the 34gr Win Supremes. By the way those are my favorite.
