I took a shot at this one about a week or so ago. I knew I hit him with a 22 hollow point, but he ran off.

Check out the pictures. You'll see today's entrance and exit wounds (in on the left, out on the right as you're looking at the head straight on). Now notice the old entrance and exits wounds that have already started to heal. Well almost. The exit wound started oozing puss when a picked her up. whatthecamo.gif

These animals are amazing tough. If you don't make the head shot with the 22, they're off and running. shockedcamo.gif

Yes they are!! Our soil is really rocky and clay based and packs in really tight. The charlies thrive in it. Tough little critters.

Interesting. I've never seen a recovery of a previously-wounded 'hog. Well, I did find one stuck in a too-small hole he'd made it to after I wounded with an HMR a couple of days before. Pretty much swore off even the magnum rimfires much past 60 yards for groundhogs. That's why God invented centerfire rifles (and good-shooting handguns.)

I was told/read that the 17HMR was deadly out to 100 yds or more.

Are you saying it's not that good much past 60 yds??? shockedcamo.gif

125yds with the 17HMR & a 20gr XTP. My Wife just loves those head shots. cool.gif

Use the .375 H&H mag and you shouldn't have to worry about them running off too much.

That's why we use the 17HMR. It anchors them very well. cool.gif
