Returned from Florida about a month ago. After three days of getting settled we were off to OH to visit with our son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and our newest one week old granddaughter. Spent three weeks helping them with cooking, cleaning, landscaping, babysitting, etc., etc. By the time we got home we were exhausted, but we had a ball. Aren't family and especially grandkids the best!!!

Anyway, it wasn't until a week ago last Tuesday that I finally got the chance to get out. Actually, my first stop was on Monday to the golf course where I ended my hog hunting escapades last Fall before we left for FL. I talked to my contact, the head guy in maintenance, and he was really happy to see me. Said they were still infested with hogs and couldn't wait for me to get out there. Same basic gig as last year; shoot Tuesdays on the course that's closed for the morning/day for maintenance.

I show up the next morning with my 22, they give me a golf cart and off I go.

To make a long story short, after about two hours in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, I had hit over 30 hogs and confirmed kills on 22. Sorry, no pictures. You can believe me or not.

The ones that got away (I did hit them) were the ones that were over 60 yards. I guess at that distance the 36 grain Stingers I'm using just don't have the knock down power and or I'm not getting the head shots that I get at the closer distances.

Bottom line is I'm going to be more consciencous about making sure I'm close enough to get a humane kill so they don't run off the suffer any more than they have to. Either that or I'll bring along the 204 for the long shots and then I won't have to worry about a thing except the noise difference between it and the 22. Which is why I hunt with the 22. Don't want to bring attention to myself.

Anyway, it's good to be back. Oh by the way, last week I did pop four on the one and two on the other farms I hunted last year. Seems like their numbers are down due to my previous efforts. freakedcamo.gif

Dogbone did you eat the hogs you killed? I would have thought that a .22 would not be no where near enough killing power for wild hogs but I guess you proved it wrong! Good shooting!

We're talking groundhogs RemingtonMan, not wild hogs.

And no, I don't eat them, but I understand the Asians and Mexicans will.

You give my 22 a lot more credit than it or I deserve!

That's why I like the 17HMR so much. out to 135yds on hogs with the 20gr XTP's it's DOA on head shots every time. biggrincamo.gif

A post post from FL. Even if they were good to eat, considering they are vegetarians, I would not do so because of all the chemicals they must be ingesting from the treated grass on the golf course. And, the one in the front of the picture is actually a muskcrat. I didn't realize it was until the retrieval. Looking forward to getting back home and starting all over again!
