I was at the farm yesterday, plinking with the FX, shooting some groups when all of the sudden Mr. Opossum decides to come on out and roam in the grass. He didnt seem bothered by me-he had his head down sniffing around and moving slowly. It was about 7pm, time for them to start moving around I guess. I grabbed the RF and got a range of 38 yards. He was quartering away from me to my left, so I held under and let one fly. I watched the pellet hit just behind his left ear, a little lower than halfway down. It must have traveled diagonally trough towards his right eye going right through the brain bucket. He was down RIGHT NOW! A few tail wags and nothing else. Oddy enough-no blood at entrance and no exit. The only way I could tell where it went in was because I watched where it hit...gotta love air guns!

I had my doubts about the gun being effective against such a large varmint, but after that, I think I have a new go-to gun for my varmint chasing. All the groundhogs I hunt are around the farm buildings, most shots are within 45 yds with few exceptions. My furthest being only 119 yards with my Fireball in an entirely different spot.

The rifle is set at 32 ft/lbs currently, and to give a comparison: I built a silent pellet trap on Friday, using a small conduit box and 6 lbs of duct seal, making for a thickness of ~1.5" across the back of the box. My RWS 75 10 meter rifle penetrates approx. 3/8" at 10 meters, it is a 5-6 ft/lb gun. My FX on the other hand, penetrated completely denting the back of the box at 10 meters. At 100 yards, the FX penetrated to 1 1/8". Three times more at almost ten times the distance! shockedcamo.gif

I don't have any pics, but to give an example of the accuracy of the modern adult air rifles, I shot 28 out of 32 clay birds set out at 114 yds that same day. The local gun club has a TON of non-broken clay birds out in the tal grass, and they don't mind if I collect them. I just picked up another 125 birds for free! On occasion the airgun will just poke a hole in them if they don't shatter, but hey-its another reason to shoot them again haha.

I saw Ron's ad in the classifed section about selling his AR (good deal for it BTW) before I started typing this, and I seriously understand why-these things are addictive! I would be considering it too if I wasnt plannig to go on a PD trip in the next year.

Thanks for all the complients guys! This airgun stuff is waaaay too cool! Mike, the FX takes the spot of my main "go to" gun now of anything-she is a keeper for sure. I bring my .22WMR along anyway incase a ground hog shows up out of range haha. Glad you liked the story Chuckbuster!

Wayne, nope I was gonna call all his buddies to come "help me out" and find more targets. His headache made him forget the numbers though anim_rofl2.gif .
