Any opinions? Does this look like a good "value" or are there better options in that price range?

Jerry
It is a GREAT value for a PCP from all that I have seen. Fully shrouded HPA/CO2 cpable, two stage trigger. It is supposedly VERY quiet. If it is anything like the Disco, it will be a huge hit and prove to be a great rifle.

If you are thinking about buying a rifle, come to Highland Monday night, the shoot starts at 7pm. Come try out a lot of different rifles. If you are thinking about buying one let me know and I'll give you my FX to shoot and see what you think.
Red
I may take you up on that offer.

I thought disco went out of style, don't tell me it's back dry.gif

Seriously....what's a Disco?

Jerry
Sorry, "Disco" is the shortened name for the Banjamin Discovery. It is the pre-cursor to the Marauder, a single shot rifle with no shroud, different stock and various other components. They are great rifles, and really made PCPs very affordable. The Marauder is the next generation repeater/shrouded/better stocked design.
Red
OK thanks. I need to do some reading up on these things.
Jerry
lol I understand. Try shooterjohns forum, or yellowforum.com, and airgun advice.net.

Do you want my gun to shoot with? I only really need it monday nights. I could get it to you tomorrow morning if you do.
Red
You'd have to show me how to use it? I'll be at the store by 10:00, I have a delivery coming that might distract me, not sure of the time? And I'll be in and out through the day. Either way, if it's not too much trouble I'd sure like to take a look at it. If not tomorrow, sometime.

I've been reading a 3 part review at Pyramid's site. It sounds impressive alright. $500 though...whew!
Jerry
I have class from 11-12:12 then I'm free. Its pretty easy to use once you spend a couple minutes messing with it. The only thing thats a pain is pumping since I don't have a SCUBA tank (yet).

Do you have an office in back where I can take it and show you or ny other area? Whatever works best for you. Unfortunately, my phone is broke and makes everything a real PITA communications wise.
Red
Yes there is a back door. No office, a kitchen biggrin.gif

yeah a phone is a must these days. I never go anywhere without mine. I don't know what we did before we had them? But I'd like to go back to it.
Jerry
Well I will throw it in the truck then today! I'll come in the front door, then if you have some time I'll take it in the back door and I can show you how to work it.
Red
AWESOME! This could be the neatest thing since sliced bread. You might have trouble getting it back from me Jerry. Here's my 7 shot 22 yd group after getting settled. I stopped in the middle of the group to take out a fly that landed on the paper.

ShooterJohn
They are fun alright. I like to hunt but they are just fun to plink with too. I have a few that are just awesome.
Jerry
cool.gif I knew you'd like it lol. Keep it for the weekend! How is it compared the the Sheridan noise wise? Its turned up all the way, if you want to turn it down and shoot, it can be REALLY quiet for indoor shooting...or some ph34r.gif work on critters...lol! The coolest part is shooting pest birds, where the impact is louder than the gun firing. The Starlings don't exctly agree though haha.
Red
It's quieter than the Sheridan. That thing is pretty loud with 8 pumps.

Being it's a repeater, I keep expecting spent brass to eject when I open the bolt to chamber the next round, but there ain't none!

ShooterJohn
Red you need to try an FX Monsoon. They're semi-auto and very quiet. The bolt makes a slight clack when you fire but if you have more than one target to hit they don't hear you rack in another round. Look at the size of the barrel shroud. ph34r.gif

And they're powerful to boot. I was sighting in a new scope and just stuck a target on a piece of scrap 5/8 inch plywood set at 65 yards. When I went to get the target I noticed the pellet went through the plywood and the fence behind it. Oops! rolleyes.gif They're so quiet you don't think they are that powerful. biggrincamo.gif

The Marauder looks like a good deal when compared to other PCPs. I'm curious as to how close the published velocities are to reality. Has anyone seen ballistic data at 50yards with the .22 cal.? I have hunted with springers since I fist got into airguns and currently own an RWS 350 Feuerkraft. It definitely does a number on ground squirrel and other vermin, but I've always thought the silence of a shrouded PCP would be real nice for those sound sensitive neighbors that you occasionally run into. I wish it had iron sights. I like the option of shooting without a scope.
ShooterJohn
The very first of the Marauder's just went out the other day so there isn't any data yet.
Red
I liked Jerry's rifle a lot. Even with a big scope, the gun wasn't too heavy to carry in the field. I found the Marauder weighs 7.5lbs, not sure how that compares "bulk" wise the the FX Black Widow?

Could one expect a hand pump to be included with the rifle? or does that need to be purchased seperately?

Also, Pyramyd Air doesn't seem to carry FX. Who does?

The Marauder is definitely heavier and bulkier than the FX Black Widow.

You would need to purchase a pump separately for the Marauder.

Airguns of Arizona are the exclusive FX dealers in the USA. The FX Black Widow and Tarantula are no longer made so you would need to find a used one. Jerry got a great deal as they can go for up to $900.

The Marauder will be extra quiet though as it has an extremely efficient barrel shroud.
Red
I'm sure you are right about the pump John. I sent Pyramyd an e mail prior to your responce. I have not heard back from them, I'm sure they'll get back to me on Monday. IMO their web site is ambiguous. A pump is shown under the Marauder Accessories, but states it's "Specifically for the Discovery". The price is $200, so add that to the $500 price tag assuming you are correct and a pump is purchased seperately. I'm not saying it's a bad deal, just trying to get a handle on what the real cost is.
Jerry
I was under the impression that the pump was avaliable included as a "kit" like the Discovery?
Red
"Dear Mike, The pump is sold separately for $199.00. The gun weighs 7.50 lbs.

Thank you,

$700. Looks like I'll be shooting CB's for a while yet.

Thanks for posting their reply. My RWS 350 springer is paid for and does a number on small furry critters. I think I'll pass on the Marauder for $700. It would've been nice to have a quiet .22 airgun. My RWS, while very effective out to 50 yards, is a bit louder than I would like it to be for suburban pest control. It does its job very well. Countless ground squirrel and crows can attest to that.
ShooterJohn
I see you confirmed what I had heard Mike. Hey wait awhile and it won't take long for the newness to wear off and you'll see Marauders for sale like the Discoveries are now at much better prices. Not that $529 isn't a good price for a repeater airgun. But once demand is met they'll be up for sale.
Red
I'm sure you're right John. I'll wait a while. I agree the price is not out of line, I just don't have the extra jack at the moment.

I am really getting interested in the Marauder! I have torn rotater cuffs in both shoulders, how hard is it to pump with the hand pump? should I just go with the air cannister?
Jerry
I'm just about to buy a carbon fiber tank for my PCP, so if you decide to buy a Marauder...let me know and I'll drop off my pump for you to use as long as you want to. Its a Hill with the dry-pak, supposedly the best hand pump avaliable. If you want to buy it, maybe we can trade for a pizza or two lol.

The pump is easy to use, like a bicycle pump. I also have shoulder problems but had no trouble using Jerry's pump.

I may take you up on that. cool.gif

Jerry
My experience I found is shared by a pretty large audience with the pump:

I bought mine to get going quickly and as a way to save $300. Now that I have had it for a while, I wish I had bought the tank FIRST. Serious range sessions with lots of pellets, and it becomes a pain to refill the rifle with the pump. The tank it really easy, and IMO worth the extra money over the pump. Sure, 32 shots between fills is more than enough for a day in the field but once you hit the range and the pellets start flying it leaves something to be desired.

Sure makes for some interesting questions at the range! And, you should see their face when they hear its a "bicycle pump that goes to 3000psi!" shockedcamo.gif

The pump works, but the tank is the best way to go. BUT, atavuss, MAKE SURE you have a place to fill your tank BEFORE you buy one!!!
ShooterJohn
I have a NEW Marauder from Mac1 sitting next to me as I type.
Red
we're waiting for a full report SJ.
ShooterJohn
My mom passed away and today is the viewing with the burial tomorrow. So as soon as I get a few things taken care I'll have much more time on my hands and put this thing through it's paces.
Glen
I am Sorry to hear about this John. Please give your entire Family my Best Wishes & warmest regards!!
