I nipped out to the range yesterday after loading 100 of these $8/100 bullets to see how they compared with the visually/dimensionally identical Midway 34 grain HP Dog Town bullets. I set up a target at 100, picked my best hole in the wind, and fired three shots in quick succession from my Hornet. (13.0 Lil Gun, Federal Sm Pistol Primer)

All three plunked into a neat 5/8" triangle, exactly where the Midway bullets would have gone. I'm going conclude that they are indeed the same, but for $8/100 instead of $13/100.

Mid South currently is sold out but on order. I'd put in an order if you want some.~AMMOe

Maybe I spoke too soon??

I have been hitting the dog towns every evening since my Son returned from college and have had a disturbing number of crawl-offs using the MidSouth version of the 34 grain HP in my Hornet. No doubt, these dogs were messed up, but normally they just fall over and quiver. On some of the smaller pups they are definitely shooting through on some shots with a distinctive "per-twang" as they made their way elsewhere. The craziest shot was last night. I hit one that was quartering on to me (on all fours) at 190 yards I hit him solidly enough to stand him on his rump and spin him around before he fell over into the hole but the bullet puffed dust at the base of the mound at a about a 45 degree angle to the line of the shot. I still haven't gotten my brain wrapped around that one. My son, watching from my right, initially said "Low left" until the dog did that pirouette and fell into the hole.

In any event, I'm beginning to have my doubts about this particular lot of bullet. I'm going to have the Kid section a Midway and a Mid South tonight on the mill and see how they compare, jacket wise. Until then I'm going to try to work up a fast load from my .222 and see how they do with a few hundred FPS tacked on. ~AMMOe

PS: NO complaints about the accuracy...

What was the velocity in the Hornet?
AMMOe
An average of 10 shots was 3050 fps.~AMMOe

UPDATE: (Not that many of you are running out to buy the 34 grain Mid South, but...)

I took them out again today and I will reverse my last opinion. I think it was my bad shooting that caused the walk-offs. I'm sure i spined quite a few of them thinking I'd made full body hits. When I got to the range today they were hitting 2.5" high at 100. I lowered my zero to 1.5" and headed for the dog-town where I popped every dog I hit. Made a couple of nice shots between 150 and 185 yards that were very pleasing. My son was with me and the hold off into the wind -with practically identical velocity loads- was much less than the V-Max 35 grainers that he likes so much. We killed a dozen and a half dogs during a leisurely conversation about his college experiences while sipping sodas. Nice day and a decent bullet.

BTW, at the range I was shooting cloverleafs with 13.5 Lil Gun and a Federal Small Pistol Primer.~AMMOe
