Full Version: Out with the airgun on a windy day

I went out this afternoon to do a little experimenting with the new-to-me FX. These were all shot at 25 yards, the dots are 3/4" stickers. I shot targets 1-5 with the JSB 18.0 gr, 6-10 with JSB 15.9 gr, and 11-15 with Beeman Kodiaks. I have it listed on the sheet that the winds were 5-10 mph, but the Lodiaks were shot in wind that was in the 10-13 mph range. Much more wind than I liked, but that wasn't going to stop me! I shot groups (in between wind gusts) from ranges 10-75 yds in 5 yd incriments, I will post some photos of those later. I am impressed with how well the gun shoots at long(er) ranges! These were not the best conditions, but I am still VERY happy so far with my gun! I have not measured the groups yet but the 15.9 JSBs look at first glance to be best, followed by the heavy JSBs, and then the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks deserve another chance because I think they will do a lot better in the absence of the high wind they had to contend with.

Looks like you got a shooter that likes the heavy & the light bullets without much POI change!! ph34r.gif

Hey thanks guys! Yes, it does pretty well with keeping the POI pretty close at that range. The 15.9 and 18 were the exact same out to 50, then the 18.0 got the nod in the grouping, but the 15.9 were still a bit higher due to the velocity. The Kodiaks didn't get much of a chance today, but I shot a group at sixty with them, and they dropped like a rock compared to the others!

One other thing I noticed, was that when the wind was blowing (right to left) at around 8 mph, at all ranges between 50-75yds the POI was actually UP about 1" at 50yds, and over 2" at 75yds. Anybody else experience this?
