I've had a heckuva time trying to find a .22 Magnum I wanted to buy. No such luck anywhere, anyhow, even at Whittaker's this spring, I couldn't find one that flipped the "Buy" switch. Fast forward to here lately, and still no such luck.
I've kinda had the hankerin's for a Marlin .22 Magnum, but no one has them. I've been to several Dick's stores, and Mossberg was the only brand on hand suspiciouscamo.gif Uhuh, no way, no how. Bass Pro had exactly NONE on hand, after two trips over there. Went to several of the local gun shops, they didn't have any, either.
I DID find a Savage 93 pre-Accutrigger, in excellent shape, but I don't want to fork over more money for a good trigger, and I don't like Savage's cheesy, flimsy magazines, either, so it was a no-go. It would have been a go, bad mags or not, if it had the Accutrigger.
I do have another Whittaker's trip planned in a week or two, whenever my buddy decides he wants to go, maybe they'll have a Marlin there. I do trust Marlins to shoot well (Savages, too!) but I don't want to fork over any more $$ than absolutely necessary to get the job done. Unless, of course, I stumble over a 452 with NICE wood.......... I might be persuaded to bend an elbow then.
Still, I kinda want a Marlin to match the ugly old .17 HMR, I could even swap magazines with that one if I wanted more firepower when repelling those vicious prairie dogs.

  1. Call around to your favorite gun dealers
  2. Find the best price for the rifles you like
  3. Have the store with the best price order one if it's not in stock
  4. Have fun

Mag-Check's bought em all up I guess shockedcamo.gif

Guns and ammo have been flying off the shelves. While at the gun shop yesterday I was told there was no not none .380 ammo on the premises and they did not know when they'd be getting any. No deals on guns either. People standing in line to buy and the dealer claimed they were having trouble getting stock to replace what they had been selling.

Our trading post has a few .22 WMR's but it is odd that just about all types of firearms are being bought up. ~AMMOe

I picked up my CZ .22 mag varmint rifle from Whittaker's yesterday. No problem. Well, a minor problem ordering rings but I'm happy.

Not to get off topic, but you made me realise I haven't read anything from Mag-Check in a LONG time! Whats goin on there? Is he ok? I sure hope so!

I have seen Mag-Check on another forum.

He opted to leave after being suspended for one week for posting bogus info and causing a big stir. Too bad.

Well, I found two .22 Magnums today, one was scoped with a no-name-I-ever-heard-of scope, and overpriced by $200, it was a 925M, but in cherry condition, still, WAAY overpriced for what it was.
The second one was a stainless heavybarrel Marlin in a synthetic stock, for a very fair price, as it was new, but the stock was an abomination (tried to type obamanation freakedcamo.gif but I caught myself). If it had been in a different stock, I'd probably have brought it home with me.

I guess I'll keep looking, one will turn up eventually. The first place was a pawnshop with a wonderful selection of nice rifles and shotguns, and prices to match. The second was a former Cooper dealer who'd shifted gears to other things when Cooper screwed the pooch. Both were south of here, I guess I'll go south more often, something will crawl out of the woodwork.

Hey Red,
Do you still need .380 ammo? I used to have a .380, but I replaced it with a Kel-Tec PF-9. I think I still have some .380 ammo if you're interested. Are there any restrictions on shipping loaded ammo via UPS? I don't think there are, since I've bought ammo on-line and had it shipped without paying the Haz-Mat fees.
Red
Thanks, no I never needed any for myself. I just noticed the shortage when shopping for a pocket pistol. I had considered buying a .380 but the lack of available ammo steered me away.

Did you find the .22 mag you're looking for? I'm happy with the CZ .22 mag varmint I got from Whittaker's. I would think they could help you out.

Not yet, Jim. Haven't been back to Whittaker's since January or February, and locally, only the ones I've noted here have been seen. There IS a CZ dealer here in town, but I HATE to give them any money, and they want full MSRP for anything they sell. They don't sell anything to me, not at those prices shockedcamo.gif I keep wanting to get down to Whittaker's, but I hate to make the drive by myself, and my buddy is putting in a new floor in his house this weekend, so I'll probably be over there helping him. There's no hurry on it, anyway. I can't make the South Dakota trip this year, so I'm not too frantic.

I'll probably wait until things pick up at work, I've been cut back to 32 hours a week, and that's putting the bite on me pretty hard.
JimT.
We always seem to have to pay. I live in CA and have to pay postage, handling and fees but save state tax. I think about how happy I'll be afterwards when I'm in the field. Think positive!
