I pulled into the field slowly and I spied some movement along one of the fence lines. I stopped, shut off the SUV, got out quietly, went to the back, popped the hatch, unzipped the rifle case, pulled the rifle out, eased the hatch down, slipped the magazine in the rifle and chambered a round while walking around the drivers side of the SUV. As I rounded the A pillar the groundhog was still by the fence, laying in the same direction as the SUV. I rested the rifle on the A pillar/glass of the SUV and my hand as a brace and put the crosshairs of the Zeiss Conquest 2.5-8x32mm scope on the head, squeezed and sent off a 30gr V-max .22 Mag from the Sako Quad.
On impact the groundhog filpped on his back and kicked and twitched at bit. I walked over. There was bleeding from the nose and mouth and from the entrance wound, but no evidence of any exit. I can't recall any 30gr V-max exits. I lasered back to the SUV and the distance was 49 yds.
I flipped this guy prone to show the entrance wound just below the ear. I picked him up by the tail and dropped him in his hole that you see below the rifle.

Cruised the rest of the lower fields that have active holes, but no more Charlies taking in the afternoon sun.
