Looking to get into the 223 varmint game. Is it worth the extra money to go with the HS stocked versions over the laminated stocked guns. Looking at the CZ 527, Remington 700, and Savage 12.

Personal preference. The HS stocks are more stable, but I prefer wood and I have no complaints regarding accuracy using properly bedded laminates.

Nothing wrong with plain old walnut, either. Somehow, some way, folks killed all kinds of stuff for many, many, many years with those oldfashioned walnut stocked rifles, and never had a problem. We tend to forget that sometimes. biggrincamo.gif

Maple, I've heard of that. Don't they make syrup out of maple? biggrincamo.gif They don't hold up well in windstorms or ice storms, either, the limbs break out of the trees, just snap off like twigs..... screamcamo.gif

LOL

True enough, I'd rather have Walnut (or Maple, or piss elm or whatever screamcamo.gif ) than Laminate in a lot of cases just for the uniqueness and beauty of the wood. Laminated stocks are heavy which is good on the bench, not so good to carry. I was searching the Tikka site just the other day, unfortunately they no longer offer a heavy barrel gun with a wood stock smirkcamo.gif
