My 1st of the year also. 17HMR with a 17gr V-Max to the boiler room at about 50yds. I used the V-Max with the building being so close.

Somehow I missed this post in all the jumble here lately. I just decided to check in & make certain you got the video. Thanks for all the nice words on the camera work. Diane sets it up & I just zoom it & move it around. I think I need to clarify every shot as to which rig & bullet.

Whatcha think about that little 17HMR on the way it hammers those hogs on head shots??

No doubt the 17 HMR has been one of the most fun cartridges invented in a while. One of the neatest things I do on my trips "Out-West" is to take a break from the Bench, and do a walk-about with the Savage 17 HMR ($200 rifle/$400 scope and 5 magazines loaded with V-Maxs), jump-shooting jack-rabbits

Somewhere in the "Photo Forum" I think I have a video of a recently-head-shot Jack doing the "Twitch"

#2--221FireBall at 97yds with a 50gr BK. Shot in the ear & the inside of the head sounds like gravel when I checked it.

Got back out yesterday evening. I did the shooting this time with the 17HMR & the 20gr XTP's. Both head shots. On the 2nd video I tried to double up but as you'll see the 2nd one on the right was skittish & dove into the hole. Both shots were under 100yds so I didn't use the range finder on them. The hole on the right in the 1st video had momma & a baby. The hole on the left had two little ones. We'll get em.

Little one getting noggin knocked too. This is when I tried for two.


I shot one earlier in another field with the FireBall at 170yds but it was raing so we left the camera in the truck. Man I love that little FB!!

COOL!! The little ones are just coming out here. Time to educate them.

The Fire Ball is a great charlie killer. I have one in an XP100. The 40gr Blitz King does a grerat job.

Finally got back out to do some hoggin. Here's one by Diane with the 17HMR & 17gr V-Max. Might have been 80yds.

Then I rolled it over for the hero shot. I found it's tongue 4 feet behind it!!!!


Here's a little one that tried to encroach our perimeter @ the 9 o'clock. A 17gr V-Max from the HMR left a golfball size exit wound it it's neck.

I thought the second groundhog had it's teeth knocked out of alignment a bit, then I saw the next picture...

I have a 204 Ruger barrel, I guess I need to get it out and smack a few.

Thanks Tigger. We wouldn't even be using the 204 on this field if it weren't for the FireBall being down right now. But it's sure nice to see some RUINT critters up close & personal!!

And this isn't the typical results of shooting groundhogs with the 204 either. We get very few blow-ups like this.

Thanks guys. We may not have the volume shooting a p-dog trip offers but on the other hand we get to set in the shade for an hour or so at a time & just watch everything around us while we wait. Speaking of which I have a couple secret videos to post. They aren't shooting related so we hope you find them enjoyable.

Here's my 269yd groundhog. It's tough to see at that distance with the camera we're using but you can see things better after you watch it once I hope.
