I shot up some subs today and I am liking these rounds. Red asked me how they shot and sounded with my 28 1/2 inch CZ barrel. Decent accuracy and if you do have a next door neighbor...they will never bother them and possibly not even be heard. I did some back searching here on the forum and found some info on subs from you guys. The subs I shot were Remington HP's and they seem to not be so desirable as far as the subsonic pecking order goes. I can't wait to get my hands on those Eley's as I was satisfied with the remmies. I also punched a few things to check the power...and there is plenty of killing power in these silent shooters. I bought these at Walmarts, but I noticed the gun shop has a brand named 'Monarch'...any comments on them? Thanks! Here's a ten shot group at 40 yards.
Never heard of Monarch myself but you might as well give em a go. Get your hands on a few boxes of various types to try. I like the Eley stuff, AMMOe gets good results with PMC Moderators. I've also had good luck with RWS.

Isn't "Monarch" the old Federal (?) line from the 1960's??
I found this in my files under "Sub Sonics" and illustrates why I like Aguila (and PMC Moderator) subsonics. The group on the left was shot with a CZ 452 at 25 yards in Scotland. The right hand group was shot with my Brno #2 using the same loose foreend rest. They are virtually identical.~AMMOe

....I'm not sure, but will give them a try. At $2.34 a box they are cheap, that's for sure and worth a try. I did find a box of Wichester yesterday and will see what they do. Were over due for a gun show down here and I'm sure the pickings will be good there for different types. Thanks for the information.
Myself I've had mixed accuracy results with the Moderators. With a new barrel in the mix, I'll have to try them in that one. The price is definitely much better compared to Eley and the local gunshow rimfire ammo guy generally has plenty of it on hand.
I was going to post a link to some online Eley that is priced reasonably but suddenly they no longer list it? I must have bought their last brick just this week. I found some at a local shop that had been on the shelf for quite a long time and still priced at $3.58 per box. I bought every last box they had and the guy gave me a 10% discount for buying in bulk

"Moderators" are a thing of the past. PMC isn't marketing rimfire ammo anymore and Aguila is no longer producing a SubS HP boxed as "Moderator". If your guy has a good supply of them, and you like them, stock up.~AMMOe
I was able to shoot some Moderators through the Anschutz this weekend. While they didn't group quite as good as the Wolf M/T, they shot pretty darn good and are bound to be better game getters. It was windy, no I mean REALLY WINDY, way too windy to be testing ammo, but there I was.
Gun show coming up next weekend. I'll see if he still has some Moderators left. Are you well stocked with them AMMOe?

Not really but I have a very god supply of Aguila Solid and HP Sub Sonics which are fundamentaly identical. I still see them at the gunshows but what it out there is what there is! Get'em while you can!
Speaking of which....
I was at Wal Mart in Billings, MT yesterday and they had a display of Winchester Bulk Ammo marked "333" meaning 333 rounds for $9.99. They are a 36 grain HP @ 1280 fps according to the box. Well, I'm the curious type so I bought a box and today, like you, I was testing them in freezing cold and wind using my S&W Model 17. Waddya know? they shot very well! I went back to Billings and found the entire display of that ammo gone. In fact, they had only shorts and 2x100 CCI Mini Mags left. Un freaking real! ~AMMOe

Fundamentaly?
The solid is a 40g bullet and the HP is a 38g bullet, is that right? And they each shoot as good for you as the PMC?
BTW, was talking with an older gent today and he said his pistol team had been shooting Federal Bulk Auto for an entire season. This is the stuff in the 325 round pack (Not 525). He swears by it. Natchez is out of it, but here's a link;

Andy,
I picked up three boxes of the Aguila 38g subsonic ammo at the gunshow this past Saturday. I've been shooting them mainly in a 77/22 with a 16.5" GM barrel. I gotta say I'm impressed. I'm not getting ultra teeny tiny groups but they are plenty good enough to hunt with and the price is nice. I get an occasional flyer, even those aren't too far off the mark and it may be more related to the gun than the ammo? I've taken a few critters with them and they seem to kill effectively. I wish I would have gotten an entire brick....those three boxes are nearly gone and it's only been 5 days

The PMC was essentially "match grade" Aguila HP. Same powder, same machinery, bullet and priming with a different manufacturing technique. When you get a really good lot of the Aguila SS it will shoot as well as anything.
Call Centurion Ordnance and order a brick. They are easy to deal with. ~AMMOe
