Thought Id post a topic to see what everyones favorite varmint hunting rifle is. Mine is the stevens 22-250 with a 50 grain remington UMC hollowpoint. The bullet shoots exactly the same everytime and Ive never had a miss yet, knock on wood.

My 204. It's just a point & click rig for groundhogs around here out to 350yds.

for me, my favorite rifle to look at is my stevens 200 in .223 and that's only because of my paintjob that made the stock look less ugly. but my favorite to shoot is my Marlin 981T .22, partly because it's cheaper and partly because i can hit smaller targets with it. biggrincamo.gif this one is ugly though...

Mine would have to be my Browning Micro Hunter A Bolt II in 22 Hornet. I own various varmint and predator rifles including Coopers, Brownings, Remingtons in 22-250, 243, 223, 204, 17 Fireball, 17 Ackley Hornet. But my first love in rifles is that Browning Micro Hunter 22 Hornet. WHY, because it makes me look good when I shoot it.

It's a toss-up between my old Marlin 17V HMR, and the CZ .221 Fireball. Neither kick at all, neither are hard to shoot, and both are "lucky" rifles, I see a lot of killable stuff whenever I have them handy biggrincamo.gif , which is probably why I think so highly of them. That last thing is important. freakedcamo.gif

I have a CZ .204, too, that is either unlucky, or I just haven't carried it around enough. I'll fix that as soon as possible, it's too nice to ignore any longer.

I also have three Savages with heavy barrels, a .204 and two .223s, which are nice enough, and the .204 Savage is pretty "lucky", but not like the two lightweights above. They are just a hoot to have around.

My Remington 700 in 223 Ackley Improved is on its second barrel. 50 gr, Blitz Kings and VihtaVuori N 135 turnout 3512 FPS. Pdogs just come un-glued and coyotes go head over heels for it.

I find the hornet on the light side for my area but then again i'm not hunting, I am a pest eliminator therefore I want to eliminate them in as small of pieces as possible, that way it's painless and humane for the pest. Plus it makes better pics. LOL

If I have to carry it I use a Win 70 in .243
If I don't have to carry it far I use a Rem 700 in 22-250 ack
If I don't have to carry it, I use a Sav LRPV in .244 ack

This should probably be moved to guns, loads and optics?

Its gotta be my 243. Tikka t3 lite that I spray paint camo to match the seasons. At the range or woods when people see it they laugh and laugh... until they see what a 90gr ballistic tip infront of 48 grs. of H4831sc can do. She'll hit a golfball at 300. Its as accurate as my BR 6mm dasher to 300 and I HATE to say that!!!!!!!!!

Rem 788 222 its my lucky rifle, Very few critters has escaped its bark,, 40-50grn V-max,s Nikon 3X9 A plain Jane with a deadly bite,, I know I have 22-250,s too, This ones just feels right,

Ruger No. 1
Either my dads weatherby Vangard .223 or My savage 16 fss in 204. Both are accurate both make good truck guns. I like the more sturdy feel of the vangaurd more though

Red was the that a headshot? And what caliber rifle did you take him with? You should show the entry and exit holes, thats the best part of the picts!

So hard to choose....so many to choose from......I'd have to go with my Winchester Stealth in 223 WSSM, fire formed cases w/55 grain moly v-max @ 3825 fps really thumps hard at any distance....shoots in the same hole time after time............

Just so happens I remember that kill, it was a really good day. It was a broadside, almost quartering shot. This is a picture of the entrance wound. CZ 204 Ruger with a 40 grain V-Max, I think, at around 100 yards...maybe.

RemingtonMan
Wow thats a big hole! Did you drop him in his tracks or did he run?

My favorite is a CZ 204 also

Red how is that finish holding up its been about two years since you had that done right.
Shakey
My CZ 527 in .223. It's quite accurate with the 55gr Vmax ammo, easy to carry in the field and cheap to shoot... as centerfires go. I also like my CZ 452 Varmint in .17HMR when wind, size of the game and distance aren't an issue.

It looks just like it did when the finish was new. It gets no special lovin either...a wipe down with WD-40 once or twice a year is the full extent of the exterior maintenance program. Actually I think I had that done in '05. I wouldn't hesitate to have it done on another gun, tho CZ now offers a full camo model. My son had a CZ 720 (shotgun) that was a factory camo model. I don't know if it was representative of CZ's other camo rifles, but that stuff was not very durable. A combination of sweat and mosquito repelant began eating away at the finish right away.

.22-250 with Remington 40XBBR action massaged by Darrell Holland. McMillan stock and Hart .920 Barrel. Single-shot, shooting 55-grain Noslers or Accubonds. The rifle never misses, even though I tend to blame it on the rifle. Can't blame it on my own reloads, though. When it gets too windy, I go to my Remington Mountain Rifle in .270, loaded with Nosler 130-grain Accubonds. They both nail the animals, and although the Mtn Rifle is light to carry, I usually use the heavy bench-rest .22-250 (14 pounds, including scope). Each rifle is set up for zero at 200 yards; trigger pull: 1 1/2 pounds.
