was up town this morning when the wife called pretty shook up. It seems Ol Lucky was outside doing what dogs do when she spotted a coyote stalking him just 20 yards away. She yelled at it, he turned and left (I can understand that) but he did not bolt away...just walked away. I saw this bugger a week ago, pretty sure it's the same one anyway. Looks like the Hornet will have to be pressed back into service.

That's one cocky coyote.
Seems like there ought to be an agreement in nature that you don't get killed and eaten while you're doing your business. It's a tough ol' world out there.
Maybe we should start a pool on how much time Wile E. Coyote has left.

Yeah! really had to twist your arm to get that Hornet out. You must have a coyote delivery company close by your house.

That coyote will be back they don't give up and if he brings a friend your dog is history. Shoot it as quickly as you can before something happens to your pet.

I think I may have already killed all his friends, might be he's holding a grudge.
I called some this evening, no show.
It's a pretty serious matter really. It was a good thing my dog was oblivious to the entire thing this morning. No telling what events might have unfolded had he decided to defend his back yard, which I'm certain he would have. Now we're taking turns standing guard while he relieves himself

it's crazy.

sounds like that yote needs a lead pill to take care of his canine stalking problem...unless you live in a politically correct neighbor hood, then i'd go with an environmentally friendly pill...
anyways, just kill it!... and have fun.

One dead, one run off but I'm pretty sure it was hit. I'll look closer for it tomorrow. Either way, it won't be back anytime soon. That makes 1/2 dozen that I can recall within 150 yards of my house this past year alone. I think the problem is getting worse!

When I saw you were the last poster at 11:18 last night...I knew some fur was down. That's good news for Lucky for the time being. No doubt, more will eventually show up....But then again...so will you

Way to go Red, good shooting. I saw 3 on my property last week, getting pretty brazen too. I called one in on Saturday morning, after 40 mins of calling. He went straight to my decoy ( Foxpro JIB) and in my excitement I missed the SOB!
I have lived in my house for 4 years and I have never seen so many coyotes on a regular basis. I found a deer on my property a few weeks back, looked like a car had broken it's leg, it was dead. The next morning all that was left was the skin and head. I live in TN, not Arizona! They are extremely active right now and I fear for my cat. That's my excuse anyway! In the immortal words of the ex-president,"I'm gonna get 'em!"

Juliang, You can use that road kill to your advantage. In this latest event, they were unresponsive to my calling attempts. I found a road killed buck that I strategically placed so that I could sit and watch from a good hide. Once they find it they'll keep coming back until it's completely gone. It took 4.5 hours of sitting and waiting last night but I had coffee and was warm in an old abandonded ice hut. I also waited for several hours the two previous nights and they'd show up after I was gone. They may be smarter than me but I'm more patient! You might check baiting laws in your area before hand.

Baiting is not allowed in TN. But....naturally ocurring things are, that dead deer had 'em picking the bones for a week afterwards. I need to go shoot some more hogs soon and leave those naturally ocurring entrails in strategic positions.
I was however, extremely encouraged by the Foxpro combo success. I just need to calm my excitement with yotes. I have no problem shooting other things from squirrels to deer, breath, breath, squeeze, bang, flop.
Have to go now, looking for roadkill.

It's generally not allowed here either for most species...deer, ducks, etc. Just this year I found a one liner in the rules & regs stating that, in a nut shell, coyotes could be baited with parts of legally taken game carcasses. Other fur bearers might be included, I can't remember. In the past legally picking up road killed deer was a red tape nightmare. People did it anyway without going thru all the BS, so at some point they just decided; Hey screw it, if it's laying dead on the road and you want it...go for it

Funny thing is that buck had no head. It had been surgically removed. Somebody must have seen it first and wanted the rack, or it was aliens, not sure?

My vote goes to aliens.

My ex brother-in-law said he saw a UFO once. But then again the cops said he was under the influence of an illegal narcotic at the time.
But it could have been just the lights from their squad car too!

Dag gone! Red. Glad to see someone in this state is killing coyotes. We have well over a foot of snow on the ground and yesterday morning it was 38 below and thats not wind chill. Tried to hunt one evening but couldn't walk further then 100 yds in the snow. Gotta give you much credit for sitting out there four and ahalf hours to get the shot. Congrats on that Kill.

No snow here. In fact we've had no real snow at all this winter. It's been very cold at times and we had a couple little ice events, but no snow more than 1/2" at a time that's gone by the following day.
