I took the rock stock 10-22lr to an indoor 30 yard range. I wanted to see for myself how it shot before making any serious changes. A Weaver 2.5-7 scope was mounted that has a free parallax setting of 50 yards. I'm sure groups could be tightened up a little with the proper setting. Right now I'm considering a Mueller scope. I've heard good reports on them and they are priced right (cheap), my one concern is that the crosshairs might be thicker than I would like. Anybody have comments on that scope choice? They sound too good to be true.

The best groups came from Aguila HV ammo at .589" but that ammo also produced one of the worst groups. I've had inconsistant results with that ammo in the past in other rifles. It could be I have a bad brick? CCI SGB (.732") and Wolf MT (.700") did acceptably well and either would be accurate enough for squirrel hunting. Among the worst were CCI Mini Mags, Velocitors, and their subsonic ammo. Groups ranged from .8xx" up to 1.333"

I was able to feed some of the CCI SGB and new CCI Segmented Subs through the '64 era T Bolt and was pleased with both. I think the SGB will be the ammo of choice for that gun for a while, although I'd like to see how the Segmented Sub works on squirrels too. The Aguila HV was inconsistant in that gun as well.

Here's some photos of the wood on the 10-22. While it's nothing that would curl your toes, from what I've seen it's some pretty nice wood for a 10-22 and I'm happy with it. Trigger componants and 17 MachII conversion parts are on their way from Rimfire Technologies.

Sweet looker and a good shooter, too. I like the Deluxes. I have three of them in the house: One mine, one (a former New Mexico Dept of Corrections Property) for my son, and one for my daughter. Only my son's is in spiffy shape but all will shoot better then they should.~AMMOe

I sent Mueller an e mail asking for retical subtensions on their 4.5-14 APV. I'm afraid they may be thicker than I would like, waiting for their reply. Also the 40mm Obj might mean taller rings and the 13.75" length of the scope is not really desireable. Honestly the very best multi-purpose RF scope I've found is the Leupold 3-9 EFR but it's nearly 3x the price of the Mueller. The Weaver 3-9 RF is a pretty darn good value and is not overly bulky. The crosshair on it is thicker than the Leo EFR. The Weaver is not too thick for hunting, it works well for that, but the FCH on the EFR is better suited for paper shooting and I've not found it to be too thin for hunting either. I just don't want to drop those big bucks on glass this time around. I guess you get what you pay for.

Nice rifle, I just picked up a DSP but the wood on yours is a lot nicer.

What barrel are you getting. I am using the 77/hm2 barrel I got from you with the spacer kit from R/T. I wanted an all Ruger 10/17HM2

I also ordered the R/T spacer set, figured that way the barrel could always be used on one of the 77's at a later date if need be, or swap em back and forth.

My son has a 77/17m2 barrel that I might use initially? (his has been converted to 77/22WMR) But I plan to get a 77/17 20" Clark mid-weight...so I may go ahead and just order that so as to have the barrel here when I'm ready to bed the rifle. Besides, my son's factory barrel shot just so-so when it was on his 77, nothing spectacular. It's possible that barrel has not had enough rounds through it to "settle in"?

Dang, I hope my trigger stuff comes this week screamcamo.gif

So do you have the factory 77/17 barrel on your 10-22 DSP now? How does it shoot? What other mods were made?

Mugwamp, I'm going to PM you a link on a 77 project from another site.

I have got everything installed I just have not had a chance to shoot it. We have 4 feet of snow. I just picked up the rifle yesterday. If the hm2 barrel does not seem to be as accurate as I want I will probably get it relined, probably with a 1:8 twist. The barrel looks amazing on the DSP stock, fits perfect, and no sanding, well I might becasue it looks like it is touching the barrel channel. Hopefully get out to Montana and help a friend with his rodent population.

I slipped my boy's 17 barrel onto the 10-22 without any means of attaching it just to see what it looked like. It would also drop right in with just the front pressure point touching. The extra 2" length of barrel and no sights makes for a clean look.

If the barrel does not shoot as well as you like, you might consider having it rechambered, recrowned, and hand lapped. I've seen some pretty impressive results posted at RFC from having that work done on factory Ruger barrels and I think it can be done for under a hundred.

Sweet looking 10/22...I really like the Deluxe models. It seems like I have filtered thru several carbine models over the years but never owned a deluxe. Yours is a fine shooter.

I just finished a carbine upgrade that was my Christmas vacation project. There are some great tips of the RF site and I used a bunch of them. Haven't had the chance to fire the rifle yet tho.

yeah it could work as an outta the box squirrel gun or tin can killer, and that was the reason for shooting it before the mods...just to see for myself. It's no tack driver, but they are a decent value for an autoloading rifle that seems to cycle without any problems. Like all Rugers, the trigger really sux though.

My trigger parts came today but the "precision hammer", the most important componant, is on BACK ORDER. ARRRRGH ouchcamo.gif

What all did you do to the Christmas Carbine SKB?

Mugwamp needs to post some photos of his finished 77/22 project. I saw it and it's REALLY nice. I'm wishing I still owned it now tongue.gif
