I have spent far too much time deer hunting this year with pitifull results, only 3 in the freezer. A bunch of us have a lease in East TN which I haven't had much time to hunt, as I work away for months at a time. Went up there Sunday with the express intention of bagging a hog. Caught this bad boy at 4.50, almost dark. This is my 3rd hog using a Tikka in 243 and 85gr Sierra bullets. Next time I intend to take my AR15 in 6.5 Grendel, need to load up a few rounds first.
Should TN ever allow us to shoot hogs at night using lights and bait....... that would make it too easy. You Texas boys are lucky. I caught 5 of them on the track out in my headlights. Couldn't afford a new bumper so I stopped instead of accelerating.

Awesome. I am green with envy. Tell me more about your 6.5 Grendel in your AR platform. I'm starting to want a bigger bore AR and am thinking about the 6.5 Creedmore but must admit I know nothing of either cartdridge. Please share your opinion. thanks

That's my contention here in Wisconsin, too few deer. A huntable polulation of hogs would keep us "real hunters" in the neat!

NICE HOG!! wink.gif

Timezone guy, the 6.5 Creedmoor is a longer round so needs the AR10 platform, with the extra weight and costs involved. The Grendel upper fits right on a regular AR15. I sold my 223 upper and bought the 6.5 as I have a bolt 223 and wanted something with a bit more bite. The Grendel shoots 120gr bullets at just over 2500fps, given the high BC of the bullets it maintains velocity pretty well. There is a large selection of 6.5mm bullets so you can choose what fits your needs. I wanted the larger bullets for deer and hogs. Wolf makes soem 120gr ammo which is pretty good and about $11 a box if you don't reload. They also make a 123gr, do not touch that stuff, awful.
I like the Grendel, easy to shoot and yet enough power to take down medium game within 300 yards. The brass is made by Lapua so a little more initial expense but very good quality. It is easy to make accurate ammo, only 30gr of powder per round. The 6.8 is also available in AR15 but I went for the better bullets with the 6.5, I'm sure either would be a great choice.

Do you eat the wild hogs you shoot? How do they taste, I have heard they are tough and have a strong taste? Good shootin!

For me there is nthing like slow smoked wild boar, whether its the bacon or a bolar style cyt that has been cold smoked or 18 hrs. it beats jerky hands down because it still comes out nice and juicy. Dice it up and put it over baked potatoes with butter and sour cream and its my form my idea of heaven. biggrincamo.gif
