Bang flopped via the 22Hornet within inches of the last one. I was hoping for some nice fur, which it seemed to have other than the fact that it has no tail ohmy.gif

nice dog.! you probably clipped his tail at one time or another nerdcamo.gif

Yeah, I'm likin that rifle more and more. Been thinking I need a matte finish on it if I'm really going to do any serious coyote hunting with it. It's so damn shiney but it's it's such a sweet piece. I hate to screw it up, a matte blue job might only make it look better?

Any thoughts on that?

PS- Glen, a package showed up here yesterday. Expect a thank you e mail from Dean.

Red,
Just give it a camo paint job. Make sure you use the paint made for camo work. I used it on my compound bow a few years ago. It wipes right off with mineral spirits so you can restore the rifle back to original condition if you want to.
Here's a link that has the same paint that I used:

Just tape it up Mike. Nothing hurt that way.

I'll be watching the mail.

I'm reluctant to use the tape. I've used it in the past and if it's left on over the winter, rust can start....I hate rust and the blueing on this one is really pretty darn nice.

The wipe off paint might be an option. Thanks for the link Wayne.

I had my stainless 77/22 barrel finished by Walter Birdsong with his "Black T" finish. I'm very happy with that, it's non-reflective yet is a rust inhibitive smooth finish that looks nice, cleans up easily, etc. Although the cost of having the entire gun done might be cost prohibitive?

Also, after insecting the Bobyote in the light of day, it has a case of mange. The tail seems to have been CHEWED off leaving just a 2" stub shockedcamo.gif
Pecci
That's a beautiful rifle, Red! My 527 Hornet isn't tiger stiped, but has a nice reddish colored stock. Personally, I wouldn't touch it.

Congrats on the "bobyote!" Tell us more about range, bullet, situation, etc.

If those coyotes could talk I think they would say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." wink.gif

Pecci,

It was a 45 yard shot into the base of the neck as it faced me. The Bullet was a 40 grain Sierra Hornet Bullet. I killed one at 100 yards with a nearly duplicate shot about a year ago and it too dropped dead in it's tracks. Those frontal facing shots are the best IMO. The 40 grain Sierra bullet penetrates deeper than I had originally thought it would. On two broad side shots I've gotten an exit wound. So far each coyote shot with that combo has dropped right where it stands, although to be fair, each has been 100 yards or less and each has provided time for careful shot placement. I'm not amazed that the 22 Hornet is effective, just kind of impressed that each has gone down so quickly.

Here's last weeks Hornet dog that took a broad side shot with the identical set up also at 45 yards and fell in the same spot.
