I sent CZUSA a email asking if/when they would be making a rifle in the 5mm rimfire round. Here is what I got back from them.
We will not be making the 5mm.

If this is true it really sucks for us. I wonder if any other company will make one.

I think it would be bad news for CZ as well.
That being said, I spoke to a representative this morning and they stated it has been "delayed", but not taken off the table completely.
Thanks for the info!

Gawd I hope it goes through. Lately I get that glassy eyed, far away look...dreaming about grabbing up my new CZ 5mm and heading out after coons or whatnot. I'm hoping they can produce a rifle that is as accurate as the other rifles CZ is known for. And still waiting..................

It's a sign of the economic times, I'm betting. They are understandably cautious about tooling for a new rifle when jobs are being lost at the rate we experienced in October.~AMMOe

Bummer
Thats the one 5mm I really had a interest in and expected to buy this spring-summer. I also contacted CZ in regards to the 5mm late summer and they said "maybe by next summer" which was delayed past the winter-spring 2009 intro I had hoped for at the latest.
Time to move on..........at least for me. No interest in a bolt action or break action single shot in rim mag personally nor the old Remmys.

This sucks if CZ isn't going to make one. I really want a 5mm. Its pretty hard to find a old one and there is no good way to make a new one. I know i could go the TC route but i would like a bolt action. Lets just hope they make it.

I'm surprised that Savage haven't made a 5mm. The model 40 would certainly be a strong enough platform?

I'd like to see Ruger make a bolt-action rifle for the 5mm Mag. I bet the rotary magazine would work fine and their action is plenty strong.
Seems like the gun companies are leaving a lot of money on the table here.

I love my CZ .204 and would also look forward to the CZ 5 mm. Wait and see. Hopefully, everyone will feel optimistic about our economy and that'll be the jumpstart we need for recovery. I'm optimistic. I can only hope it is contagious.

wonder if it would be feasable for simply a new barrel to be added to the sako quad line up...

Issue with that is the bolt would have to be modified as the 5mm is larger. There is a chance it might, but there is unfortunately more into it than a barrel swap. It might be easier to go from a 22 hornet.
Anyone checked the specs? I would but I don't have any of the ammo.

I would be on cloud 9 if Sako would just make a single-barrel rifle like the Quad chambered for the 5mm Mag.

With the Ballistic Tip 30gr 22WMR and 17HMR the 5mm is hard pressed to get a good foothold. At ranges beyond the 17HMR I'm inclined to grab my CZ 527 in .223. I owned a 5mm Remington years ago and ended up selling it. I'm not so sure I'd go for it again. I'm pretty much covered when it comes to varmint rifles so the 5mm would be a just because rifle. That in of itself is OK, but I have a couple of other just because rifles I'd rather have. I've been getting the urge to pick up a 25-06... just because.

Particularly if they don't start producing some rifles chambered for it

I'd buy one. I'm not overpaying for a beat up decades old 591-592.

I have an old remy 592, I love the 5mm,,, killed a lot of game with one back east back in the 70,s when ammo was available, sold it, then got another one last year when they started making the ammo again,
Who ever comes with it first "CZ Savage" I WILL have it! Got 2K rounds last year for it, in case they decide to stop making the ammo again. I know its a hard sell with the better 22WRM ammo coming out now, I guess its just for us nostalgic freaks .

Yes. The Economy pulled the rug out from under CZ and that's too bad. The company who
could make one, easily, is NEF. They make the 204 already so they have the barrels. They make rimfire actions that are plenty strong enough... I'd lend them my reamer if they'd make a prototype or five!

~AMMOe
Since they have not yet put the 5 on the market, the economy and what it will bear is only speculative in CZ's regard. Unless they actually build and market it, they'll never know how many they might have sold. I know there are (were) a lot of guys chomping at the bit for a taste of a high powered rimfire combined with CZ accuracy.
Personally I'm not interested in a single shot of any sort, NEF or otherwise. If that's the only choice I'd stay with the 22M in a repeater.
BTW, I heard a rumer that the 511 might be coming back

It would excite me more if it were the "611" making a comeback. That was a spiffy one!
actually I mis-spoke. The new one is supposed to be a new and improved version of the old 511. It may not carry the 511 name, but should be a quality semi-auto.
there are no plans to bring back the 611. It was actually produced by Zbrojovka Brno which is no longer in business. The 511 is (was) made by Ceska Zbrojovka.

I'm not sure I want to buy a new 5mm even if they do make one. I've shot plenty of the Centurion in my 591 and it just isn't as good as the original Remington I have. It just will not group well. The targets are at 50 yards. I shot one clip Remington then one clip Centurion for 40 rounds each.
If someone makes a better round I might consider another 5mm.

Mark,
You may want to play around with the action screw torque. As the 591/592 is a single point bedded action, it can play a huge role in accuracy.

I have a 592 that won't group Centurion into 2" at 50M yet my 591 will shoot them into .6" with the stock (terrible) trigger.~AMMOe
