I had sent my FX 2000 off to Mac1 a couple of weeks ago for a complete overhaul. Today I had a chance to take her out and sight her in. I then spent a couple of fabulous hours in the piney woods here in Northern Arizona, in pursuit of the tassel eared tree squirrel. They are also known as the Abert's squirrel. I'll post that story later.

When I pulled the scope off to send the gun to Mac1, all I did was loosen the clamping screws and slide it off the gun. Today I simply reversed the procedure. I was curious to see just how close to being sighted in it might be. The prairie chuck target was put out at 50 yards and I fired the first shot. Elevation was perfect but it hit just a bit left. I made a small scope adjustment and fired seven more. Pretty much a bug hole.

Today was one of those rare days where we had almost no wind. I was out of the prairie chuck targets so I put one of my huge bullseye targets out at 100 yards and fired five shots. the group goes 1.2 inches. The pellet of choice today was the 21 grain Beeman Kodiak.

This rifle never ceases to amaze me.

Ron, here's the rig I hunted with today. In addition to the FX 2000, binoculars, and rangefinder, I also have a GPS locator that lets my wife and son know exactly where I am at any given time, but we also have mountain lions up her in pretty good numbers, and since I hunt alone, I carry my Combat 45 Colt loaded with 230 grain Winchester Black Talon hollow points. Plus I never when I might run into some recent arrivals making their way from Mexico to who knows where.

The FX 2000 is discontinued, but if I can find a second one, I'm going to grab it. They are exceptional PCP's.

G'day,

Rldgcntr,

Do those SPOT GPS locators work as well as they are advertised?

I am curious about getting one for when I am alone back country hunting (to keep the wife happy that I am OK).

Thanks,

Matt

Mine has been absolutely flawless. I mostly hunt alone, and now that I'm getting a little long in the tooth, (65) my wife and son gave this to me last year. We all feel better about me being out in the boonies by myself.

Cliff is ornery too, so it's best he hunts alone. biggrincamo.gif

And not only that, but this way I'm the only one that knows about the easy shots that I missed. whatthecamo.gif confusedcamo.gif
