Got my first YOTE!!! I've been hunting coyotes for about a year. I live in Milwaukee WI which is in south eastern WI and Ive hunted coyotes five or six times in the surrounding suburban counties. I've never had one answer a call or even seen one. This weekend I went up north to Sayner WI wich is in the upper fourth of the state and there is a much better population of coyotes up there. Well saturday morning I made a stand on a ridge overlooking an old clear cut that turned into a field with small pines growing back with some tall scrub brush to the left and its surrounded by thick woods. Everything was perfect, wind, sun, at my back nice weather and it just felt rite. I started with a locater howl wich didnt get answered, waited a little while and started my rabbit distress callin and some challenge barks and howls. I was maybe twenty five minutes when out of the scrub on the left (just like I was hoping) a female at about 175 yds came charging in. As I adjusted my gun she stopped and looked around and at me, I stopped, waited for her to start trotting again, shouldered my Tikka .243, got her in the cross hairs, let out a lip squeak, she stopped to look at me and her head and shoulders were behind a small pine so I BLEW her guts out with a 90 gr Nosler BT with 48 grs H 4831 sc behind it! It was apsolutly perfect!! I was the happiest camper ever!! Im not sure of my fps on the load cuz I havnt crono'd it yet but it shoots .5 MOA at 200 yds. Its such a relief to know that my calling works and technique isnt suspect. Man I thought I was hooked before! I have pics but cant figure out how to do it. oh well.Click to view attachment]

Sounds like you kept your cool and made a good shot, that's hard to do sometimes especially for it being your first.

Yeah it was a really nice coat! Its been getting down to 20 degrees where I was. I felt bad about leavin her lay there but that would have been a huge hole to sew. Mike its funny you say that cause I did shoot the poop rite out of her It was the best hunt I ve had in a while everything worked out perfect wich is rare, now I really want to get back up there for another weekend. Damn!
