Took my 8" Model 27 S&W 357 magnum out today in the wind and made some dogs duck. I got a few, and attempted to artillery barrage a few more at long range where just dropping a round on the mound was a moral victory. I had a blast! Shot up a lot of ammo very quickly. This was only my third or fourth time out with this S&W and I confess to never having put it on paper that I can remember so, after the dog session, I headed to the range to see where it was hitting. With a Lyman 160 grain SWC and 11.5 of 2400 it was dead on at 50 yards so I burned up my remaining rounds shooting bowling pins DA from 25 yards back. Now I know why S&W was so darned proud of that Model 27: Smooth as silk and deadly accurate. I'm certain to take it out prairiedogging again! ~AMMOe

Last winter I made up some .357RemMag loads based upon the Sierra BlitzKing 110 grain and WW296 for the very purpose. Last season, shooting both with my old T/C Contender 12" (steel sights) and my old S&W 686 6" (steel sights), managed to lay a few of the pesky pups low. Range was from fifteen yards to 136 yards (lazed), and the BlitzKing performed reliably; both accurate and explosive. Velocity out of the 12" tube was a shade north of 2040FPS. biggrincamo.gif

I used to shoot those Sierra 110s out of an old Colt Trooper .38 Special (pre Mark III or V, the kind on the Python frame), they'd flat out shoot out of that old gun. I could DA frogs in the pond with it, and that's pretty fun, too biggrincamo.gif For a gun that didn't really fit my hand all that well, it sure would shoot! It was bigger than my 686, though, and not nearly as easy on the hands as the Smith.

I've had a M28 6", a 5" M27,and an 8 3/8" M27, and the Highway Patrolman was the only one that shot worth beans. (I liked it better, anyway).
