I increased the charge of LiL Gun in my hornet to 13 grs. Just in time to find this guy in the back field. Nice of him to help me out. It was a 108 yd. shot.

Wow !

It opened that Chuck right up like a 22-250 on that particular shot.

Nice loading/shooting Rich.

Rich V,

Did it enter its back and thats the exit? Or, did it zipper (un-zipper) its belly from broadside low impact while on all fours?

I have had simular carnage from Hornet with the second as Steve from here has seen with even 45 gr Varminters. But, I never had one enter the back or front and then exit with that much carnage even at 100 yards. Just wondering/curious.

BTW- CZ Hornet shooters. I just got my magazine back from the gunsmith yesterday. He modified it so I can load/cycle the 40 gr plastic tip bullets. I loaded some blanks for him at 1.84" COAL and they tested/cycled fine.

Going to test some Blitzkings as I feel they may be more explosive in 40 gr plastic tip than the V Max's. Will try 13.0 Lil Gun and CCI small pistol primers to get the most out of them to start. Picked up a Chroney also...............will keep you guys posted. Should be able to test accuracy & velocity this week. Then hope to find a few fall woodchucks to test fragmentation down range on. For the do it yourselfer interested I can post the magazine mods. to allow the CZ to cycle longer C.O.A.L. if you would like. My smith used a mill and took 10-15 thousandths off the plastic spacer. I picked up another magazine from Mid-South prior for "just in case back up" may have him do that one too now

You sound like your all wound up laugh.gif

Whilst I was shooting PD's this past June, the 40 v-max was the best Hornet bullet of the three I used as far as wind drift, range, and explosive results...not the cheapest bullet though and for prairie dogs...eh they were just as dead with the cheaper 40g Sierra soft point Hornet bullets, and some of those hits were dramatic too.

I don't think I've ever used any Blitz Kings lighter than 50 grains, these heavier BK's were used in larger caliber rifles, but from my experience, comparing the .22 caliber BK vs. .22 cal V-Max used in 223 or 22-250, the v-max's seemed to be a bit more explosive than the BK's.

I've not found the same to be true in the 20 caliber bullets. The 20 BK & 20 VM seem about the same to me as far as frangibility.

anywho, keep us posted

Red,

Well I just got a couple hundred of the BK's from Mid South so I want to think that anyways smile.gif

Last year I think it was??? I used the 40 gr V Max in my break action Hornet most the summer and it exited 90% of the Woodchuck dime sized from 50-175 yards........didn't matter. Killed them fine just did not frag as expected. A nice old timer @ Sierra has assured me that in 40 grain plastic tip anyway, the BK will frag much better at lower velocity, than the 40 VX for those seeking such in something like a Hornet or Fireball rather than smoke'in them out of a 22-250..........time will tell.

The Sierra Varminters are "go to" main stays for me. They have shot very well for me in three hornets, expand down range well and kill woodchucks well.

Hey Glen - BTW, a gun shop up in Buffalo has a old Lee Classic Loader in the cardboard box as new/unused for $9 bucks and change. Want me to pick it up for ya? I am there on business a couple times a month. Almost took it for the heck of it anyways...........had some other, no longer made calibers in the stack too. Think they also had a .218 Bee.

Interesting. I should note that prairie dogs "POP" pretty easy compared to groundhogs too. It doesn't take a lot to turn a thin skinned 1lb PD inside out. I have a bunch of Hornet bullets that have yet to even be loaded so I doubt I'll be looking for any new ones to try for myself anytime soon...still, I await your field reports on the BK's. Good luck.
