Good stew meat there Red
yeah Mike, Campbells used to make a Fajita Steak Soup (discontinued of course because I found it and liked it). I bone the squirrels and cut them into bite-sized pieces, brown them in the frying pan for just a minute, then add them to the Fajita Steak soup and let it simmer for a bit to completely cook the squirrel and tenderize it some. It was pretty darn good. I've been looking for another soup I like as well with the squirrels added. We had some Vegetable Beef/Squirrel soup on Saturday...was pretty good, I liked the Fajita stuff better.
P.S. we didn't eat the snake

Sounds good Red...I remember seeing that Fajita Steak Soup at the grocery, but did't care for the sound of it...but as soup stock it could be a whole new ball game

I'll check the grocery today and see if they carry it down here. We got plenty of "South of the Border" folks here and Cambell's might be sending your share of that soup down here

I normally make that vegetable 'beef' soup you mention with squirrel.....

They still make the Fajita CHICKEN soup. My boy likes it, I don't care for it.

Red, where are you from.? Those squirrels are a different variety than we have in Idaho. We have what I call a red tree squirrel (one of the critters in your photo looked like a red tree squirrel) the rest were very distinctly marked and appeared like maybe a "Gray" tree squirrel and I hear they get much bigger than the ones we have. Just courious.

good lookin bunch o squirrels. Our pine squirrels here in Colorado are very similar except they are not so white on the underside.
Looks like all the squirrels "took one for the team" in the head...the snake, not so much.
In the urban areas we don't consider squirrels table fare but the cats eat well.

timezone,
I'm in southwestern Illinois. The red squirrel in the photo is a Fox Squirrel. In most areas around here they are less common than the grays. Although we had an abundance of them in the woods behind my house when living at home as a kid. The Fox squirrels are also a bit bigger than the grays and slower moving (easier to hit).
Here's a better pic, photo bucket seems to be off line at the moment.

TZG,
almost forgot. There is another larger gray squirrel but it's very rare, and carnivorous.

Very good photo Red. We have lots of them here in Northern Illinois. They make a heck of a crash when they fall through the trees and hit the ground.
