Just shot this one the other day. (hopefully I've attached it correctly) Weighed only about 50 lbs, easy to get him out of the woods though, real tender and no gamey taste either. You'll need Power-point or a Power-point viewer to look at the pic. He was only about 50 yards from me, head shot put him down instantly. His two friends, about 30 feet from him, didn't seem to notice his departure. Didn't feel like dragging them back to the truck, so I let'em go. Maybe I'll go get them tomorrow.

Nice shot. what did you shoot him with? I guess my real question is ( I've never hunted a hog) is a .223 enough gun to do the job right? I want to come to the South and hunt a hog. thanks

Used a .308 on this one. There is a picture of it in the photo section. As for a .223 being enough to kill a hog, you'll get a lot of different opinions. I think it is enough to kill a hog. Headshots with anything are lethal. I've never had to chase one or take a running shot on one. You can wait for the easy head shot, and you can get pretty close to them too. A lot of guys like to shoot through the shoulders, to hit the heart and lungs, I don't like to put holes in the parts I'm going to eat. Besides, their brain is bigger than their heart.
