Here's something a bit different for those of you that hunt with your airguns. I've been hunting California Ground Squirrels with powder burners for over four and a half decades, and with airguns for over three decades. This is a self-produced video about open country, fair chase varmint hunting for California Ground Squirrels. I use both springers and PCP's in my hunts. All video clips were shot by me with the camera mounted on a variety of PCP's, including the new Crosman Discovery in .177.
The recoil of the springers firing would cause the video camera to malfunction, so I filmed everything using PCP air rifles. However, there are also many still photos included that show the results of hunting ground squirrels with my spring powered airguns.
I'm not a professional filmmaker. Like many of you, I'm just a guy that loves to hunt with airguns. I hope, that through this video, I am able to share with others the excitement and challenge of varmint hunting with modern adult airguns.
I hunt canyons, meadows, valleys, ravines, and thick oak forest alone, on foot, in pursuit of ground squirrels. It's spot and stalk type hunting. The shots are many and varied. I think the video does a good job of showcasing the power, accuracy, and effectiveness of modern adult airguns when being used in actual varmint hunting situations. As they say in Hollywood, this film took 20 months to produce, and has a cast of hundreds.
For me, California Ground Squirrel hunting is about relatively high volume shooting, and this video depicts that. The DVD is 70 minutes of varmint hunting action. It contains over 265 video clips of ground squirrels being taken with a variety of PCP airguns at ranges from 30 to 90 yards, and a bit beyond. Many of the clips are shown in slow motion. I've included the best of the clips from my video hosting web site, only now they are seen in their original resolution, not the highly compressed versions used for the web.
If you hunt with airguns, I think you will find the video interesting and entertaining. If you're thinking about hunting with airguns, I think you will find it interesting, entertaining, and informative. If you don't hunt with an airgun, it just might convince you to give it a try.
