I'm looking for a rangefinder, I'm getting tired of the 100yd roll of tape! Any thoughs on the RX-II? I like the features, but as you all know, real world experience is the best experience. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jerry

I've owned and tried many rangefinders. If you want one that will work under any conditions and is used by guides world wide. Buy a Leica! I have the Leica 1200 Scan and it has never failed me when others couldn't even get a distance reading.

I'm with shooterJohn. I love my Lecia 1200.

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you just need consistent 100 yd. ranging even the cheapest model will do that to within less than .5 yd error. If you want to range objects you plan to shoot at long range the higher end units will serve you better. I have had a couple and used several the Leicas I used were the best distance measuring LRF but even my very cheap Bushnells would match them out to 300 yds. or so.

Hey thanks for the info guys! It is much appreciated biggrin.gif . The leica sounds like a good model! I'm looking at the Leupold because it sounds like a good model, but mainly I'm looking for something so I can setup my targets without having to get out the 100yd tape an drag it all over the place when I setup every time I shoot paper dry.gif . Ya never know, a prarie dog trip could be in the future...so I might just buy the good one anyway! Thanks guys!

Jerry,

Curious as to where you got it and, if you're willing, how much $$? Seems like Leica has price controls. I bought a CRF 900. At the time I had what I considered a 600yd rifle and figured I didn't need a 1200. But now I'm putting together a longer range rig so the 900 might be straining a bit.

I picked it up at Cabela's over here in St. Louis. They had it on sale for $599, same as I could find for a used one on ebay, so I went ahead and bought it. I haven't had much time to really test it, but it works GREAT so far. The farthest I ranged at the farm was 1141yds, and it was on a pine tree, really the only object that far that was perpindicular to the laser. It read the range almost instantaneously. I got some good readings on some telephone poles at 940, so that tells me it keeps a pretty sharp beam way out there. You might want to look at the Swarovski LRF too, but the CRF 1200 is a geat unit from my experience so far. When I try it out farther and on smaller targets I will post and let you know.
