called it in with one of Rudy's "Stone Coyote" open reed calls after work this evening. He dropped like a rock with a 385grain Great Plains bullet. Lotsa blood.

Can you see through the bullet hole? laugh.gif

Red, that is awesome. You are certainly proving that you don't need a FoxPro and an AR15 to hunt yotes. Do you have the coonskin hat as well? screamcamo.gif
Blue Duck

Good shooting Red. Using a smoke pole adds a degree of excitement.

Killed this female this evening wit da trusty 10-22Magnum. 30g Hornady at 10 of my short legged paces from a tree stand. I believe she's the mate of the male killed with the Muzzle Loader. I've been seeing her from time to time near the house and I'm pretty sure she had a litter this year. Unfortunately, I think they are probably big enough by now to cause some problems of their own. Hopefully they never got fully educated and can be called easily.

Another one that couldn't resist Rudy's Stone Coyote open reed call. It's now an integral part of my calling gear.

Well I use either a 22-250, a 257 weatherby or a 25-06 and I guarantee I can kill as dead as two pictured. I would prefer the 22-250 loaded with explosive bullets (disintegrate almost immediatly when the animal is hit) which are usually called varmint slugs. Course if I really get mad at the critters. might just bring out my 220 swift. Guess I believe in overkill. I remember years ago hunting groundhogs in Pa. with my 30-338 (338 winchester magnum necked down to 30 caliber). Still kicking myself for selling it. My rules for groundhogs were quite simple, I would not shoot unless the critter was 200 yards away. It never failed me even if built on a 1917 enfield. A super accurate varmint rifle that killed by total destruction almost.

Really? BTW, when you say modern centerfire, not sure what you mean by modern: the 22-250 is old, the 25-06 is old and even the 257 weatherby is old. There is an excellent book I suggest you look at before you reload your muzzleloader. It is entitled "Varmint and Small Game Rifles and Cartridges" the revised and expanded one published in 2001 by Wolfe Publishing. Starts with the 17 remington and the 22 hornet and ends in all reality with the 25-06.

BTW, hope is muzzleloader is rifled :-)

I meant modern in terms of a primed case filled with smokeless powder as opposed to a traditional hooked breach muzzle loader or rimfire is all. Just a joke really. The ML was bought for deer hunting this fall. It's not really my calling rifle. Was pretty much fun to lay that fellow out with it though. Can't wait to get into the deer woods with it...just got an Ol Man climber to go with it.

Post some photos when you can cool.gif

I understand humor very well and assumed your answer was meant that way but was in a rotten mood because I could not get a rifle I wanted that day. So I tossed a coin in the air with the choices being funny or ticked off and came out somewhere between. Does not happen often but missing a 375 weatherby still gives me fits,

The bullet will be bigger than the varmint:-). So are ypu telling me to get a 460 weatherby to hunt rats (RPFL)?
