Just got back from a really nice trip. Thought I'd share some of the photos here.

Dean over his 223

Jim

Rick

I was lucky enough to get a decent amount of shooting done with the 22Hornet. It was my first trip to the towns with the small gun. I was very much impressed with it's performance on relatively close range PD's. Impacts were much more dramatic than I had thought they would be. 3 types of bullets were used and each performed better than I had hoped.

The pic of the Little Badlands brings back fond memories of that area.

Great report and pics, Mike!!

We did. I haven't counted the empties yet, but we had one really exceptional day. One of those days that you mostly only hear about, and we went through hundreds of rounds as fast as we could chamber them. On the following day rain kept us from getting back into that field, it was Dean and my last day and we couldn't make it work to stay an extra day. Jim and Rick pounded them again in that same field the next day.

yep yep, pretty much fun alright biggrin.gif It is beautiful country. I love visiting, don't know if I have what it takes to live there year round though.

BTW, on day one. Dean sat down 4 feet from a rattler that started buzzing from the mouth of a PD hole. That was the only snake we saw. The single six 22M loaded with shot made sure he wouldn't be bothering us any further.

Several of my friends shot the Rosebud this year and had a bad go of it. They also shot the Grass lands and did the same. Private land seems to be the ticket. I'am planning a trip later this summer and will probably head for Wyoming unless in can get something lined up closer.

I'm wondering how fast the plague will sweep across S.D.? and how long until those affected areas come back?

We were lucky to find some private land, one spot was not too good, another was, but I'm sure that town is pretty well shot out for at least one years time. We were told that since the Rosebud has not been very fruitfull, Indian guides are now spreading out into PD towns on private land and Res. land that were previously overlooked by them. Of course that means more pressure on those places that a few guys might have been able to do some good on. The guides are taking clients to the same towns constantly, so you know the shooting can't be that great.

Just a hunch on my part...I'd say if you can get to Wyoming, it's probably a better bet that you'll find good shooting.

Yes Mike we hammer them the next day again. We hammer them so much the next day Jim is asking if I want to make one more trip out this year again. I not sure the wife would be happy if I went again. She had a list of stuff for me to do when I got home that was a mile long. ..............and I am still working on that list today.
Red
They're out there in that field munching grass RIGHT NOW Rick, I mean right this very minute while you're working on that honey-do list. You'd best get them before the plague does.
