"I then rested my Marlin 917V .17HMR across my .243 that was in the gun rack (the .243 makes a fine rest in the rack) put the cross hairs dead on the shoulder and squeeze one round off."

Can you say "Idiot"? mad.gif

Now every swinging *^%( is going to say "I can do it because so and so did it".

Completely irresponsible posting that sort of thing... mad.gif

I'm sure glad it's against the law to use them on game animals in Oregon.

I always use my other rifles as a rest. That way I can scratch both of them. anim_rofl2.gif

blink.gif I'm not even sure my comments should be put down here! mad.gif So I'll refrain.

If what this guy wrote is the total truth. rolleyes.gif He has been lucky to the 1 millionth degree twice in a row. He needs to go buy a lottery ticket because his luck is in high gear!!

LOL^

my point, he has a .243 laying literally RIGHT THERE and decides the HMR is the one to use?

+1 on that. I'm pretty sure I can't use the language I'd like to use to discribe what I think of this nimrod.

I doubt there will be a huge increase in .17HMR owners out there hunting antelope, or any other large game species due to this characters escapades. I'm very fond of my .17HMR as I am of every rifle and pistol I own, but each one has specific uses the same as any other set of tools. My .17 is a fine small varmint gun and that's the niche it will occupy as long as I own it. Hopefully the narrator of the big game story won't continue hunting large game animals with his Marlin .17. That's just not responsible hunting IMHO.

What a load of shite

Be like taking out my .177 and hunting Buffalo.

Shoot to kill not to mame what a dickwad knobhead

I think he was spanking the monkey
B-MAN
what dickhead! someone should take both his guns then weld up tha muzzles so he cant shoot either of them anymore! he would probably take the 243 to africa to hunt rhinos, and elephants also! someone needs to get a running start then kick this guy square in tha sack!

Although I am not saying what he did isn't stupid, just remember that Blackbuck Antelope only weigh about 70-80lbs. I still would have used the .243...

Absolutely go with the .243. The .17 HMR is perfect for ground squirrels out to 150 yards. Common sense should be the rule, not the exception. Let's use it as an example of what we should NOT do.

I just saw this, pretty interesting! I probably wouldn't have believed it if he didn't have a bunch of pictures to back up his story. I think this is a good example of what can be done with a very well placed shot. That being said, I would have used the .243 if I had the 2 rifles sitting there. A nice 80 gr. bullet would been what the doctor ordered. biggrincamo.gif
