Most of my field shooting is done from 40 to 80 yards, so I need a stable shooting platform to be able to consistently hit small targets like California ground squirrels at those ranges. The first two anchor points are the left and right feet of a Stoney Point telescoping bipod. The second two anchor points are my left and right feet planted solidly on the ground, and the fifth anchor point, is either my right, or left shoulder planted firmly against a nearby tree. With the rifle resting on the bipod I now have a nice stable platform to shoot from. It beats the heck out of off hand, or even shooting from a monopod. This method has worked quite well for me for many, many years. Here's how it looks in real life. I hate video compression, but I think you can still see what I'm talking about.

Excellent demonstration; great shot, too!

I don't take shots at animals off-hand and do most of my shooting off of my steady stix. I do prefer a mono-stick for the hunting I do; I need to replace the top part that came off on mine.

That's a good shot Cliff. How's the ankle doing, better I hope. I always enjoy your videos. I still haven't received my replacement video camera yet. I'm getting worried. unsure.gif

John, it's about 90% I think, but that's going to have to be good enough, because I'm headed over to California tomorrow to take care of some business next week, and I intend to squeeze in a few days hunting on the Tejon.

No gimpy ankle is going to keep me from poking holes in the furballs. I'll just have to hunt even slower than I already do. dry.gif sad.gif

Good luck and be careful with the ankle. Poke lots of holes in those critters.

That does work well. The tree helps break up your outline to boot. With, or without a tree bipods are worth their weight in gold. Nice shot by the way.
